Bea Arthur / John Currin

For some reason I was thinking about Bea Arthur this morning as I was driving to work. And thinking about Bea Arthur made me remember this hilarious portrait John Currin (American, b. 1962 - ) painted of her:

John Currin, Bea Arthur Naked, 1991

I'm not sure if I would want John Currin to paint a portrait of ME, but I like his work. Here are some of his other portraits:

John Currin, Ms. Omni, 1993, oil on canvas, 48" x 38"

John Currin, Rachel and Butterflies, 1999, oil on canvas, 68" x 38"

John Currin, The Bra Shop, 1997, oil on canvas, 48" x 38"

John Currin, The Pink Tree, 1999, oil on canvas, 78" x 48"

John Currin, The Cripple, 1997, oil on canvas, 44" x 36"

If you need more of John Currin's works in your life, I'd recommend getting this book John Currin or this one John Currin.

interesting work. i love seeing what kind of art/books/etc. other people like. i don't think i'd like these hanging in my house, and if he painted me i'd totally want my boobs uplifted more. ha

Why would you paint Bea Arthur? And naked, no less? She has always disturbed me a little.

He seems to like the more generously endowed of our gender, eh?

These are, somehow, funny. Meanly funny though. I love Bea Arthur though. She was a keeper. Hope you enjoyed the weekend. :)
