Alexander Calder Jewelry

Alexander Calder (1898-1976) is most well known for his hanging mobiles, but I am partial to the amazing jewelry that he made.

If you or anyone you know has jewelry that you suspect may be by Alexander Calder, be very careful with it, as his jewelry is very prized and very, very expensive. You can always take it to a trustworthy appraiser to find out if it is really by Calder and determine the value. Or if you don't don't want to bother with all of that, contact me and I will take if off of your hands.

I had no idea he made jewelry. But I agree - they're awesome. Unfortunately, the people I know (including myself) are not nearly cool enough to potentially own anything by him.

love the last one.. i am not real big on silver but, if that were in gold, i'd totally wear it.

here's my question: do the owners of such fine pieces wear them as jewelry or display them as art?

Lovely! Funny timing too, because I just found your blog, and I also just rekindled my interest in Calder after seeing some of his work at the Reina Sofia in Madrid last week.

Those are beautiful! I have a bun holder thingy (for your hair) that is reminescent of these pieces and it has lapis, amethyst and garnet weaved into it. I bought it from a guy with a street stand in Berekely and it was starting to rain so he sold it to me for only $10. I still have it and that was 17 years ago.
