The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

Have you ever seen the movie The Umbrellas of Cherbourg? It is a French musical from 1964, starring Catherine Deneuve. It is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. I love the costumes, the hair, the makeup, the set designs, and the cinematography. And the singing is beautiful, too.

I have seen this movie many, many times, but this weekend I took about a scrillion pictures while watching it from my tv. The pictures below are not nearly as pretty or saturated with color as the movie is, but you'll get a rough idea of what the movie looks like. Check out the movie if you like the pics below.

I'm not a huge fan of musicals, but this movie looks fabulous! Queuing it up on Netflix right now. Have you ever seen "Two For the Road" starring Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney? It's a feast for the eyes, a cinematic masterpiece in my opinion, and one of my favorite movies.

I loved the saturated colors of the movie too - Catherine was and still is so very lovely.

I have never seen this movie. I am writing it down so I can go find it. I love musicals especially seven brides for seven brothers.

Catherine Deneuve was so insanely beautiful in the 60s! The Young Girls of Rochefort is another classic.

I haven't watched this movie for YEARS. I love it, and your pics quickly brought it all back to me. Catherine Deneuve has always been just so exquisite. I hope that I age like her!

I have watched this several times being a huge fan of the ever elegant Catherine Deneuve...happens to be one of her best. When asked how she kept her beauty in later years replied she would much rather have a beautiful face with filled out wrinkles and a heavier body, than looking haggard and old! It must work!

There are so many classics that I've yet to watch- this being one of them! Ms. Deneuve is certainly a stunner. The last film I saw her in was "Dancer In The Dark" (with Bjork- seen it?), and as she ages she still looks amazing.
Thanks for posting the photos!

I have to be honest and say I've never had the pleasure of viewing this film, and it reminds me of "down with love", the set, the make-up, the HOME, the loft, the chicness about it all.. and I would still don that hair and dress today..

I'm a big sucker for french films/old musicals but I haven't seen this one. Will check it out. And I'm smitten with your blog. And heart it, too. Couldn't resist. sorry. I can't stand 'lol' for some reason. I do fancy your blog though. You have a good thing going here. I will be back. Often. Methinks.
