Brian Dettmer: Book Autopsies

Scion Space in Culver City has an exhibition called Papershapers which runs through May 2, 2009. Works by several artists are featured in this exhibition, including works by Brian Dettmer.

Here are some amazing images of Brian Dettmer's work which he creates as he "carves into books revealing the artwork inside, creating complex layered 3-dimensional sculptures".

Images below were found on his website: centripetalnotion.com.

These are pretty fucking awesome. I think I saw these on Boing Boing one time? Whether I saw it on there or not, they always blow me away every time I see them.

This artist is seriously talented and creative! I have never seen anything like this!

P.S. your comment on my blog this morning cracked me up. I wish I got jacked up like that from a soft drink - sounds fun! Being self-employed, I never get a refund, but have to pay when I file my taxes, dammit.
