Cindy Sherman at Spruth Magers

Cindy Sherman's new large-scale photographs will be at Spruth Magers London from April 16 - May 27, 2009.

This new series of work features portraits of Botoxed, aging wealthy female socialites (all played by Sherman herself) posing in front of lavish backgrounds.

Below are some of Cindy Sherman's older works from the 1970's in which she photographs herself in numerous guises for images recalling promotion shots from noir and new wave films.

They are really cool...quite eerie though..Women like this (as in rich socialies) seem so very unhappy. I find this really shows through in this series of photos. Thanks for sharing!!

Her works have progressed to different kind of maturity... admire her!

Those top pictures are really too far out for me...I could tell who she was emulating. Glad she doesn't know me...I'd hate to see her impression!

Love the "afloat in green trees" pic. Botax and Facebook man, The allure is there but I have to sign a contract with myself every other week- that I won't succumb to the pressure!

a good commentary on the plastic look the rich women being satirized have achieved through poisons.

ahahahah #3 and #6 are the most hilarious. It's so crazy because her old works are SO AMAZING ...it must have been Steve M's influence, that's all I can think ...but really funny :)

Sherman's work demands that we challenge how we view her in these settings. It's bizarre, just so odd!

the expressionless look on her face is scary. i know this is what botox does though as i used to see it everyday at work. good pictures though.

That red lady is kind of creepy. Otherwise, these are really neat.

Thank goodness I follow your blog religiously. Otherwise, I would have no idea about any art in the world.

I read about those film noir pix she did back in the '70s. They seem so interesting. The newer ones are creepy but probably very accurate in many cases :)

Love Cindy Sherman. Haven't seen her for a long time; thanks for bringing her to your blog!

She's got this sub-culture nailed, and it's freaky as others have said. Note to self: never look like this.

Hmmmm what interesting shots. Brings up a whole legion of thoughts regarding beauty and age and medicine(cosmetics).

Thanks for the advice too! It all makes sense and even knowing this I still don't heed the advice :(
