High School Hilarity - 1988

K at Blog Goggles tagged me and asked me to post a picture of myself at my high school prom.

Um, I did not attend my prom or any school dances. I grew up in a very conservative/religious household (my Dad was a preacher), so dating, dancing, and proms weren't really happening. Are you thinking of the movie Footloose yet?

I was a bit terrified of boys for the longest time. But that did not stop me from having MAD DOG CRUSHES. The boys pictured below got many a lingering stare from me in high school, and I would have been giddy beyond belief to have attended prom with any of them. OH MY. These boys were positively DREAMY to me back then. Come to think of it, I still kind of like the rocker/stoner look.

Oh, and if you want to check out the hair from the late 80's, this page from my yearbook has some startling examples. Click to enlarge. Sorry for the fuzziness, but you'll get the idea.

Ok. Now I am biting the bullet. Here is my horrid high school senior year shot. Blech. Let me explain the hair. I was growing out my Billy Idol/ Pat Benatar/ Sheena Easton haircut, and opted for the mod mushroom cut.

Horrors. I can't believe I had to post that.

If you want to join in on this tag, hit it. And link back to me, por favor.

Oh. And I have been tagged by several others lately. I am sorry for lagging, but I will try to get to them eventually.

woot! you are so freaking pretty. I lurve your hair cut. In fact, I so wanted to have the straight pretty hair...and all I got was the chia pet frizz fro. sigh...it's since gotten better. I stopped fighting it and brushing it and discovered leave-in conditioner and gel.

as for the yearbook photo...I have to dig one up from my yearbook. :)

Love your crushes!

Sweet baby Jesus, you are a looker! your dad is a preacher, too? So is mine! He used to say that wearing jeans was for prisoners!

You had a type in high school, for sure!

Girlfriend! HAWT. If I saw you walking down the street today with that haircut, I would:

1. be envious as hell because my Jewfro does not allow such a cut

2. think to myself,"Damn! She's got it going on."

These are great.

I love your hair.

The guy with the stache looks like a gym teacher...and the last photo of the guy isn't so bad.

I forgot to ask....can we have more 80's photos?

Ahhhh! LOVE THIS!! So glad you decided to join, my darling :)

That yearbook page is hilarious. Those gals really loved hairspray. I much prefer your cut.

Though it's really those mustaches that get to me :)

What a fun post! Brings back memories...

There's a porn-stache theme going on here! I don't think any boys I went to high school with could even grow facial hair, now that I think about it. As for your hair, you were obviously way ahead of your times by not rocking out the mile high bangs and Aqua net rat's nest. I might link back to you on this post. Love it.

You are looking swish. I did not have any boys at my high school who looked so manly. They all looked like Carrot Top I think.

That last guy is, without hesitation, my favorite. I like the kind that look like they might be ready to go for a swim.
You definately rocked that cut every bit as good as Joan Jet or Pat Benatar. I was wondering how many spiders were in the other girl's hair.
So, you're the daughter of a preacher man. My parents might as well have been, we had so many uptight rules growing up. I could have built a little cabin with all of the splinters accumulated from climbling out of my bedroom window.

pretty girl! i've seen that haircut on quite a few girls lately

u should post more 80's pic, that one of you and your friends in front of a car was great!

Trip down memory lane for me here! I think we were in H.S. at the same time - I unfortunately fighting my fine, straight hair and trying to get the spiked look. I crushed on the punk boys. Later in college, I had the spiral perm - yay!

I love that you posted your pic! One of these days I'm gonna get my scanner busy and I'll show you a REALLY scary H.S. photo!bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb

The Magnum PI 'staches kill me! Why black and white? Even though I've been 29 for quite sometime..I know we are close to the same age...we had ghastly bright/geometrix color photos for the year book.
I adore your hair...I'd love to see your hair before you grew it out too!
Love the twinkle in your eye too!

The "do" is rather like Jane Fonda from Klute....which is a style I always wanted.

I have a similar pic of myself but I really looked more like a pumpkin head...the hair was PERFECTLY round.

erin@designcrisis said...

I see your haircut all over Austin. You was stylin!

Kim said...

Wow! We must be around the same age because this looks like a page out of my highschool yearbook. Only I had a curly bob (permed-I permed my way through highschool).

The Cottage Cheese said...

God, how much do I love your rocker chick hair?! It's too cool! My curly hair has never lent itself to any edgy cuts, so I'm so jealous of sleek mod hair.

Penny said...

Those guys seriously look at least 35 in their senior pictures, with all their moustaches and blow-waved hair. The gloriousness that was the 80's!

You looked SO pretty, and the hairstyle is actually cool!

Denise said...

The first hunk actually looks like Swedish Robert Wells, a famous piano-player! He's had that hair-style since like... the 70's-80's, probably.

This is awesome! Good for you... I must find mine!
