Silver Foxes

Do you ever wonder what you will do when your hair is gray? Will you cover it or show it off?

Looking at how well these folks wear it makes me want to try it someday. But hopefully that is years away.

And you?

I'm gray...fighting it everyday but lovin' it at the same time!

My husband has lots of gray early and is so salty and sweet. Love it on men, they look sexier, another crap luck of the draw thing.

I just went yesterday and got my hair dyed black (again). Recently since I had the baby, my greys have come out. I DO NOT want to go grey gracefully. I'll let my face wrinkle and probably will never have surgery to flatten my stomach or lift my breasts but going grey is out of the question!

Thanks for your kind and supportive comments always on my blog. I always look forward to what you've got going on here and then also what you have to say when you visit. I find you super interesting!

I love it on other people, but I can see myself hanging onto color for longer.. I've seen some Gorgeous people with gray hair and think its MEOW on certain men. I find it gray really brings out the eyes.

Diane said...

I've thought about this before. I think I'd want to hold on to my hair color for a while. I've become quite attached to having dark hair. My mom's has gone gray and she dyes it so I think I see my future, except I'll probably use more unnatural (but dark) colors.

I think going gray looks better on men than it does on women, though. I always thought Anderson Cooper looked pretty awesome with his gray/white hair.

Jake Hammell said...

I'm far more concerned with losing my hair than it going grey. If my older brother is any indication though I don't have to worry about hairloss, but by age 26 I'll be growing a slightly grey beard.

paul is beautiful. jeff and kris not too shabby either--and, well, george is GEORGE. ditto on men wearing gray better than the ladies. in fact, many guys even look better once they go gray. (i apparently had way too many thoughts about this one.)

Pyzahn said...

For me, it's not the color so much as they texture. When I pop a grey hair it's like a runaway from the brillo factory. Course and ragged and unruly.

So I have this fairly normal brown haired head with these prongs of white stuff sticking out. Maybe if I let it go long enough, it will look like a halo! Cool.

Or a fringe tree in bloom. Uncool.

I'm not sure I'm gutsy enough to ever keep grays if I get them -- but I already have pretty light hair, and somehow I always associate "cool gray" set against dark hair.

I love silver foxes! My B is one and he is in his early 30s! I would love to pull this of when the day comes, I don't dig the peppered look, I hope my hair goes from black to silver. BTW I loudly second the MEOW from the earlier comment!

Fresh Paper said...

You better put Andy in there! (Anderson Cooper is gorgeous)

Penny said...

I would love to say that I am brave enough to wear my hair grey/silver,but I'm not so sure.I think it takes a lot of guts to pull it off.But I do like the look, and think it looks really cool.

Char said...

if I didn't dye my hair I would be 75% gray - speaking of....LOL

paul newman - way hot.

I started greying at 18 and just have my hairlighted every three months. Light hair seems to hide it better or that's what I tell myself. nudge, nudge. My husband (tho he's older) doesn't have a single grey hair but I'm suspecting will look like some of these silver foxes once it happens. I'm kind of in the boat with men pulling it off better than women though.

I LOVE an early silver gray! I think it's so stunning! My mom went gray very early in life and colored it for years, but finally just it go- it's striking to say the least. And really, a gorgeous older man with more salt than pepper in his hair and beard- yes please! -e

Charlotte said...

That's almost too much sexy for this early in the morning. I agree don't forget Anderson Cooper, he's adorable. Unfortunately I have been growing gray since I was 19 years old. Thankfully it's easier to hide with naturally curly hair but I don't even know my natural color anymore.

love the look of a woman who can pull off gorgeous gray hair. i'd totally try it if i could (but i'd want streaks).
p.s. your post is up!

Diana said...

if i was not so concerned with looking older, i would do it. my husband has a lot of gray hair and i love it!

TERI REES WANG said...

When it decides to make a strong statement, then I will show it off.

Until then I cover and color but, I am getting tired of that trick.

me melodia said...

well my hair is already turning gray but i doubt it will look as chic and put together as those silver gents.
I have wiry scattered nonsense all over. I love to pluck them. I lock myself in the bathroom, sit on the sink and search for those gray invaders. I am so proud of myself when i look at the gray hair mass murder i conducted.

My grandpa had a head full of white hair he used to dye jet black. It was so overly black it looked like a hat. He did not believe in graceful aging. ;)

(i hope you enjoyed my total blabage)

I'm definitely dying my hair til the end, but can really appreciate a hot older guy with the salt n pepper look....quite honestly I can't wait for my hubby to have it....so distinguished! Paul Newman, Richard Gere, George Clooney...oh my!

Lianne said...

Last year I decided to give up the bottle and accept my grey. I'm lucky -- it's a beautiful silver and I adore it. Unlike Kim though I squirm at the thought of wrinkles. Give me a smooth face and a head of silver any day.

Question: Is it grey or gray or both?

gangsta bride said...

God why is glenn close so freakin chic?! i am all for grey (or at least jamie lee curtis' dark grey).

I've often seen women with super long gray hair that looks so so good ...so if I had my choice, I would choose that ....but how rare is it that gray hair actually looks smooth and pretty? RARE.

Carlotta said...

I'm natural blond so I'll always have highlights no gray for me, but I love men with grey hair they look sexy and wild..look at steve mcqueen he was so hot!!

Kim Hightower said...

Anderson Cooper is my FAV silver fox. He is so hot! Mmmmm...

I will be dying my hair until the day I die.

Rachel said...

I probably won't have this "problem" b/c my hair is thin like my moms and she has just now started seeing strands at the age of 53. I do have a friend who is already covered if she'd let it at age 30 and she swears to dye til she dies!

I love the look!

Raina said...

I started going gray at 20 and now at 40 am completely salt and pepper. But not in a good way. It's in weird patches and clumps around my head.

I tried letting it go natural for about 4 months but grew tired of the stares. "Yes, I PURPOSELY painted big patches of silver on my head thankyouverymuch!"

So now I home dye it every 4-6 weeks.

Tikimama said...

I will be thrilled if I look as good as Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep - that's exactly the kind of gray hair I hope to get. But I think I might end up looking more like Richard Gere! In that case, I will remain a flaming redhead!

Bon Don said...

Those are def. sliver foxes!! I was just thinking yesteday... should I dye my hair when the gray reall starts to show?

Chessa! said...

dude...I don't have to wonder. I have to look at it everyday! I started noticing it when I was still practicing law. I never had to color my hair before I turned 30. Then I started to notice like these very short and very white hairs popping up. Now I have to dye it...bc not only is my hair turning gray but my once-lusciously dark brown hair gets brassy and reddish but NOT in a good way. sigh...I wish I could rock it but...not yet.

Chessa! said...

and, btw, yes, I definitely think that most men look better with it but there are some beautiful women with gray hair...now I can't remember her name for the life of me but she was a model in the 50s. gorgeous, classic woman. anyway, my hubby has the salt and pepper going and I love it.

Keeley said...

I love the look of well groomed silver hair, just don't know if the look would work for me!

The Seeker said...

Well, for now I just have some grays, so I cover them, but I think it's lovely a whole gray head, like my mother has.
So I do not know what I would do later...

Luv

If you had asked me 10 years ago, my answer would have been: i will definitely wear it gray with dignity and pride. i thought it would be beautiful or even edgy. Now, i am beginning to count the gray hairs. truth is, i hate it. doesn't work for me. think i'll dye till i die.

Biba said...

I refuse to grow old gracefully including going visibly grey! I have the odd grey hair but dye my hair anyway and never will i stop. I do wonder though if we get to a certain age as a granny when it's actually more trendy to have grey hair...!?

Elizabeth Marie said...

No, I will NEVER succumb. But a silver fox sugahhhh daddy? Where do I sign?

Kellie said...

Not really sure what I'll do. My hair is naturally light so I may even have a few now and not even know it! I'll probably do what my mom does and highlight it so that it just all blends together in different colors. Who knows though? If I can look as great as these examples I'd have no issues w/ going grey!

caroline duke said...

don't forget dr. drew! he's definitely a silver fox.

my hair's blonde so hopefully i won't notice gray for a long time. when i get the appropriate age, i plan to go old lady purple.

Savvy Mode SG said...

if i have beautiful grey then i will be okay.

jennifer from pittsburgh said...

Emmylou Harris let herself go gray when she was still a young woman. I always admired that in her. Currently I'm going gray, slowly, and I do think about whether or not I should color. If I can get someone to color it for free, like say, MK, then yeah, I'll probably try it ;)

Mary-Laure said...

I won't cover it, definitely. Silver is chic.

Confession: I have a TON of WHITE hair. It's so ridiculous. I dye it. I think it'll be all white when I'm older - hopefully I'll hit 30 before that happens, Jesus can you hear me?

Jules said...

my grandmother had the most beautiful snow white hair. she was goegeous and let her hair change naturally with her age. i'd like to think i'll do the same...we'll see about that!

thereddeer said...

I am 26 years old and already have a number of grey hairs - I blame it on motherhood :D

I think I can't be bothered dying my hair - but we'll see how it looks before I make a definite call.

trishiekoh said...

I'm not sure, i'll probably have my hair cut short and coloured for as long as i can.

I started going gray when I was in my early 20s. At this point (34) I'm more salt than pepper. I don't color it, I just keep it short and don't worry about it.

Sasha said...

I actually was thinking about this yesterday and how certain people look fabulous with a little bit or a lot of grey hair!! And of course Richard Gere love him with grey hair!!!!!

Fragrant Liar said...

I haven't allowed my vanity to take any breaks, and I don't see any breaks in the near future either. But, maybe when my hair is all gray and thinning, and I no longer have dark roots, I will stop highlighting and give in.

alissa said...

id like to be no gray or all gray - can you dye your hair gray?
im not sure how much mine will show up in blonde hair, but im sure ill find out...

Big Red said...

I would totally let it grow out. I think a think mane of silver hair is gorgeous. Even salt & pepper. I am all for growing old gracefully.

Underfunded Heiress said...

You have such creative posts!

Unfortunately I would totally die it. Don't mind a little gray in men though. Ugh. Such a double standard I have.

Paul Newman was so hot even with gray (so sorry he passed). I fell in love with him when I saw one of his old movies when he was young. WOW. He totally surpasses Brad Pitt. haha.

Jesus Christ! When you finally get around to MY answer, do you even care? What was the question again? My Grandma had a few grey hairs at 92, my family is, I guess, freakish with aging. Good genes baby, good genes.

sallymandy said...

Oh, George Clooney! So many fine dudes, Droll! You're killin' me. Don't get me wrong, though. I'm pretty glad Carrot Top is gone.

I'm 46 and feel lucky not to have any gray. I think there's a weird gene in my dad's family. He's 76 and only has gray in his EYEBROWS. That's right, the hair on his head is the color of a Hershey bar. It's pretty thin on top, but it's all his. Hopefully, I got that gene.

This is a fun post.

I hope I am brave enough to leave well enough - I think a gray head of hair can look the most stylish of all. xv

My hair is starting to go grey. I color it then it grows out and I wait until I can't stand it any long then I dye it again. Luckily it still blends in with the brown.

creative kerfuffle said...

maybe it's because i'm getting older myself, but i find silver foxes so very attractive : ) at 40 i have 1 random gray hair, mostly because of genetics. the hubs has salt & pepper hair and i think it's hot. if i do go totally gray i think i'll just let it go. right now it just keeps getting darker and i don't like myself as a brunette, so i color it.
