Wow,
Couldn't recognize Johnny Depp in that portrait! My fave would be that Mcdonald french fries...(I like mine with mayo+ketchup- for your info...hee*)

Absolutely amazing.

How does he do it?

Speaking of Laura Dern, I recently watched the infinitely crazy shot on digital, 3 hour Lynchfest: Inland Empire. Mostly I watched it for Jeremy Irons, who just rocks the creepy house.

I really love these. I couldn't begin to choose a favorite. I like how he photographs people and objects equally well.

aah, that girl dressed up as Ace is kind of scary!

I think he made Laura Dern and Debbie Harry look old, I'm just saying.
Neil young is too cool for words, and any shot of him is o.k. with me.
I didn't like L.D.Caprio for the longest time. But then he grew up, and I think he's really tough and smart.
Johnny Depp....ahhh, with a spoon baby!
Don't want to leave out the "abandoned town" photos, they're priceless.

...booked a room last night, I'm a comin'!

we are going to go to the getty on friday! hip hip horray!!!

reminds me of the iconic portraits and shots from the depression era - dorothea lang et al

I agree with hanako, she took the words out of my mouth, haunting and beautiful. the butterfly is disturbing to me but i can't help but look at the image a little longer.

btw, since i love shoes, i am doing a shoe giveaway! come join the fun!

These are pretty amazing. Even the people shots (regardless whether they're celebrities) show more emotion than you usually see and he's not trying to deliberately make them more beautiful than they are. Love all the non-people shots as well. Haunting and beautiful. Thanks for posting!

Some are way cool...Neil Young looks like he belongs in an asylum..LOL!

Those are great!!! I've gotta try out that first hair style. Wonder if my hair will hold?

Kellie said...

Ew ew ew! Chyna! Yuk.
But Johnny Depp... Yum. :)

Ela said...

Oh I love! Did you notice that all the celebrities he painted still look like that? Seriously, it's like they haven't aged....except maybe Christina Ricci but that was 11 years ago! Crazy.

Oh 1. I know you do, but today you must stop by 2. In that interview I did, which I mentioned in yesterday's post, I named you as a *fantasy dinner guest* :)

I like the first shot of Laura Dern. There is a glamour and elegance there and at the same time something eerily haunting and disturbing about it.

GREAT stuff! Love the Johnny Depp one :)

I had to do a double take on the Arnold one - looks like a wax museum figure...

I pretty desperately want to own some of these photographs, particularly the one of the photo booth. But strangely, not so much the one of Chyna.

Lianne said...

Absolutely love the photo booth. Man, does that ever bring back memories.

TheBeautyFile said...

Perfect! I love me some photos. Really, Johnny Depp and Leo in the same post...my eyes, my eyes...two of my BIGGEST pre-teen/teenage crushes ever....

Pyzahn said...

I love this work!!!! Almost a modern day Diane Arbus.

I can't believe that pic of Laura Dern is from ten years ago. It's rather harsh. But I love the theatre seats with gum. Will you buy me that one?

Sam said...

Mmmm...interesting work! A few are stand outs for me - Arnie, the cinemas (both inside and out), Johnny (actually anything Johnny's got my vote! - he's my Travis!) - the guy in the car - very American Gothic almost.

Diana said...

wow, some of these look like paintings! my favorite is the photobooth!

I love the photographers that you post. This is my favorite, though, thus far. Laura Dern looks so quintessentially David Lynch-like in that photo. Winters captures the weird magnificently in all of these photos.
