Orange

tiger lily

Lately I have been making a greater effort to wear colors and prints and to lighten up on all of the funereal garb that seems rather prevalent in my wardrobe. I have been gravitating towards orange-y and coral-y shades as they work well with my skin tone.

I was shopping on-line and found a Michael Kors (ok, let's be real: MICHAEL Michael Kors) long-sleeved top on sale at Hautelook.com and it looked to be of the orange-y variety. The top was a shade called tigerlily which sounded rather lovely to me and looked like it just might work. I ordered it thinking it would be a good color for me, and that brand usually works well for me.

So I got the package and opened it up. When I saw the top my eyes bulged. My mouth dropped. It was SO ORANGE. I am not sure you understand: IT WAS SO ORANGE. A solid sheet of SCREAMING, ANGRY, RAGING ORANGE from neck to torso.

I don't think anybody could make this particular shade of orange work well. You are just going to have to trust me on this. And all I could think was that Michael Kors must have been inspired by this look when he made this top:

or perhaps this look:

Needless to say, I am returning the top for a refund. SHUDDER.

Oh dear, don't give up on color. It lifts the spirit.

Is that bottom photo Michelle Rodriguez?

The Thriller video was pretty unexpected. I thought the person in the white tank top was a girl until he turned around! It was good, but sad, too, in a way, all that human potential wasting away in prison.

I LOVE bright colors too. I used to wear a lot of artistic black, brown and grey. But bright colors are much more fun.

What a bother to have to return the Michael Kors. But at least now you get to do more shopping!

Orange is the new IT color. I used to be convinced that only black people could pull it off, but I saw a really cute orange and white polka dot bikini at Target the other day and I'm thinking about trying it out.

I know who could wear that shade of orange well - Vincent Gallo!! I know you think it's funny I've got the hots for him, but I've worked out the precise reason why I do - his protruding nipples ;D !! x

Have you been to Yaya's yet? She is OBSESSED with orange! (yayastuff.blogspot.com)

I envy those who can wear orange. I'm one of those people who can't. It makes my skin look more...well, orange.

Wait a minute...peach is a form of orange, no? Orange and pink, perhaps? I do look good in peach!

i definitely know what you mean lady!! i have to do 80% of my shopping online since i live in such a small town...and i loath when i receive something that is so incredibly different than what was photo'd!

i do most of my shopping in the men's section of Hot Topic, so i'm similarly colorless (except for blue). My mom ordered a purse online once, and it ended up being the size of a small suitcase. The internet is devious.

Ah, my little Tigerlily you have made a grave mistake. The color orange is one that expresses creativity, which is showing off your talents. Unless you intend to become a monk or a Cal-trans worker, there is not reason to wear it as a cloak to prove your happiness. It is simple enough to admire it with your own eyes, and not force others to be blind.

I hate when that happens - looks ok online and you need sunglasses when it shows up...

You could possibly save it for Halloween and go as the Great Pumpkin, haha.

Nah, keep it. I was thinking of starting a meme called "Orange you glad it's Friday." That could be your first entry.

Yikes, sounds like some seriously strong orange! Hope you can find a nicely toned down version. And I do hope you're having a beautiful weekend dear :)

not all oranges are bad. Try tangerine or like a pale orange. I on the other hand love bright colors :-)

Bummer...hence the reason I once in a blue moon order something online. I must see it in person, I must try it on, and I must have it that day!!! Have a wonderful weekend.

Ummmmmmm, orange rocks. And it's even better when you pair it with blue. GO GATORS. Ok, college crap aside, orange can be fabulous. Don't give it up!

OMG I love that thriller video, however you could never look like a phillippino prisoner.

Grrr that is why I get so frustrated with the online shopping! you never know! If you don't feel comfortable send it back, and suck it Michael. I agree with Savvy that not all oranges are created equal, but there is a BIG difference between prisoner #454 and "tigerlilly". Hmm..I bet you look pretty though. I wear A LOT of black so when I wear color I feel like a fucking clown.

See this is what happens when you fashion blog. I GO BAT SHIT CRAZY.
Well, thats a lie, I go bat shit crazy everytime you blog and being number 21? is effing unacceptable, my apologies I love your face.

Whewwwwwww deep breath. I hope you had a fun girly day!!!!!

No kidding? Garbage man orange bad? Ouch. Michael Kors should do quality control way more intense. I just got a pair of orange wedges too the other day, now I don't know what to do with it.

Oh I just wore a dress in that orange colour at gala..hmm.. bad fashion decision?

sorry it didn't work for you, hon. i'm a fan of orange. it's great with grey and blue - quite 'funeral' colours, me thinks. there's somthing fierce about that flower.

oh the joys of online shopping! and it can be more annoying when they so lovingly throw in 'free shipping', but then if its not right like WRONG COLOR then its worse too if they want you to pay to ship it back garhhh.

I think I wear black like 98% of the time. I try also to add some splash of color. As much as I actually do like orange as a color making it fall into my wardrobe isn't going so well for me...if I saw 'tigerlily' I would have scooped it up too :) gah sorry for the in your face orange blare! :-/

Hope your weekend has been nice{minus the wrong orange}. byebye.

ha that reminds me of this outfit they made people wear when they didn't stick to the dress code in high school. they used to have these ugly big sweatpants and t-shirt that said "property of high school" if you wore a skirt that was too short or whatever. but then it kind of backfired and became a fashion trend to have that on. it was that kind of orange.

Bwahahahaha. Orange is the new black don't you know. I like to pair my orange things with mustard. Ha. You can choose whether or not you believe me. Hope you can return "Tigerlily"

but honestly, I'm obsessed with orange this summer and I'm usually an all-black clad kind of gal.

Lol lol lol. I'd never ever consider wearing orange anything. When i try color its either brown, blue, or red.

hahah, i love orange clothing pieces but there are definitely some less than attractive shades out there. maybe stick with a more coral color, as i think that color looks great on almost anyone :) oh and i really love that tiger-lilly pic, it's so beautiful and i want a dress in that pattern now!
