I went for a hike this morning at Fern Dell in Griffith Park.

I took 121 shots while hiking, and these are the only pictures that I sort of liked out of the whole bunch. Ha! Oh well. Thank gawd for digital cameras.

Fern Dell is a beautiful area for a having a picnic or hiking. If you plan to attend but don't really know much about hiking, here are some tips that I learned the hard way:

1) Don't bother showering before going hiking.
2) Don't bother with make-up if you are going hiking.
3) Do a little research before you go hiking. Find out how long the trails are, HOW STEEP THEY ARE, and figure out what you are realistically capable of doing.
4) Don't be stupid and wear a sundress and Fit Flop Sandals if you are going hiking. Not even if the weather is gorgeous; and especially not if you are hiking up a mountain that feels as steep as Mount Everest. Sigh.
5) If you are huffing and puffing your way up the mountain and people RUN past you, don't let this discourage you. That's the breaks. Some people are more fit than you, and whaddya gonna do but keep plugging along.
6) If you decide you cannot make it to the summit, even though you see A VERY CUTE RANGER WITH GORGEOUS BLOND HAIR AND BLUE EYES TRUCKING HIS WAY UP THERE WEARING A WEIGHTED VEST AND ANKLE WEIGHTS, keep trying. Gulp.
7) If you REALLY cannot make it to the tippy top, it is ok. Maybe next time.
8) If you feel really giddy when you are headed down the mountain and excited at the notion that you will once again be able to breathe freely, realize that the way down is treacherous and you should exercise great caution so that you do not slip and fall.
9) If you are an idiot wearing a sun dress and Fit Flop Sandals and you skid, fall and start sliding down a very steep grade of the mountain, DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO STOP YOURSELF! Gah. And hurry and scramble up, even if you think you sprained your ankle. Hurry. This is imperative, as people are going to see you in your prone state and offer stupid advice like "be careful girlie; you don't want to fall". Argh.
10) Don't think you can go shoe shopping after hiking. You can't. You stink. You are dusty. You cannot.

All in all it was still fun. All I can do is live and learn, and be a TINY BITTER SMARTER next time that I go. :)

I wish I could take pictures as good as these. I just got the ol' camera out and am getting familiar with it while I recuperate from flu and cold. And it is raining every day now for a week. But when I can get outside I plan on taking some pics and learning how to use the camera. So if I take 121 shots and can get 7 awesome shots I will consider myself a real photographer.

Men giving anonymous blowjobs didn't fall out of the bushes? The place is notorious for it.

LOL!

Great pictures. My husband used to make me hike back in the day. There are some benefits to his rapid ageing and Eyeore transformation!

Excellent tips - thank you for being the brave guinea pig and testing out those for us first! :) I do love a good hike!! Unfortunetly it's been pouring with rain here today so no walking of any type here in Sydney. Love your shots - especially the top one - gorgeous!!

Come hike with me in ND. It is perfectly flat. You can wear your flip flops. The only treachery is the mosquitoes. But you know what, they are dead now cause winter's on its way and your toes will freeze. You can wait a month, and come cross country skiing. Not kidding. The invite is open.

If there's a great shop at the top, I'll be more motivated to go hiking I think...(the materialistic me is talking here! hehe...)
~Great weekend*

I've been hiking a few times and most of the time I've done it properly, but once, because all my hiking shoes/sneakers were dead or soaked, I actually attempted it in a pair of sturdy flats. Yeah, they weren't so sturdy after although I did get to the top of the summit in them. Do love the pics though... there's something beautiful about seeing the leaves in all those different shades! Hope you have a lovely Sunday :)

Hey there. Happy Sunday to you. I hope you've been enjoying the weekend. Take care. Good luck with the week ahead. Cheers!

All of that and you managed to snap off some gorgeous photos too! Haha!
The first one is my favorite, would you mind if I take it and use it for my screen saver? It's so peaceful, I'd love to see it every day. I love the one of the water fountain too.
Did I ever tell you that I used to go hiking? I had to stop because the ice kept falling out of my glass.

wait...are you telling me you wore a sundress and flippy floppies to go hiking?! bwaaaahahahahaahaha!!!

this is so cute. i love it. well you live and you learn is right and if you're lucky you survive to talk about it. great photo shots!

ps. i'd be the one running past you but only to show off because once you're out of site, i will stop and catch my breathe. lol.

Pretty pictures! I haven't gone hiking in a while, i'll put these tips to a good use if i go. Definitely no flip flops and sundress. I wont bother looking girlie too lol so training pants and sneakers then?:)

DesBisoux said...

dude!....that's one heck of a hike!!! Well... some of us need to do it the hardcore way to learn....
Hope you bitch slapped the idiots who gave you that beautiful piece of advice...
But more important, did you catch up with the hot guy and hooked up?
Xxx

Love those shots!

Oh. The photos are so calm and peaceful. But then the description of you in your flip flops and dress skidding down the mountain is terrifying and horrible.

anotherfishinthesea said...

that list is hilarious. i somehow went to my mountain weekend and forgot to bring tennis shoes or boots and also did some hiking in flipflops. woops. at least we ate cheese and drank wine when we got to the top. then some emo highschool kids were whispering about us being drunk when they walked by. jerks. and now that ive rambled, the pictures are really nice and the weekend sounds lovely! hope you are ok!

Gorgeous shots!

All kudos to you for going hiking. I 'intend' to do something like that soon. As much as I'll huff and puff, I think I will be very proud of myself for giving it a go

As you should be proud of yourself!

Awesome shots!! Griffith is one of my favorite places to hike :)

I swear, girl, you and I are just accidentally circling each other around LA. We've probably run into each other half a dozen times and smiled.
