Spring, Sprang, Sprung!

Well maybe spring hasn't sprung completely, but the weather in Southern California was just gorgeous this weekend so I ventured out to The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens in San Marino. Here are a few of the 167 (!!!) pics I took.

If you want to visit The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, click here for more information.

Tips if you plan to visit The Huntington:
  • Visit in the spring when most plants are out in all of their glory. The roses are not in bloom yet, but will be soon.
  • San Marino gets VERY hot in the summer, so plan accordingly. You couldn't pay me to visit mid-summer when temps are in the 90's and 100's. HORRORS and heat stroke. Yes, I am an utter wuss when it comes to temperature.
  • Wear comfortable shoes, as the park is GARGANTUAN (the gardens cover 120 acres of the 207-acre grounds).
  • When I visit, I only go see the gardens OR the museum and the library, never all three in one day. I get sensory overload and can't handle seeing too many things in one day. Go ahead and make fun of me about this; I don't care.
  • Even if you have been here before at least 10 times like I have been, BRING A *#@$&#%&! MAP. I swear, when I go places I always think I"ll just find my way there miraculously and it invariably leads to a LOT of driving frustration.
  • No picnics are allowed, but there is a Rose Garden Tea Room and Cafe on the grounds.
  • Admission isn't cheap, but the park is so beautiful that I am not going to complain about it. This place is pretty much a must-see in my book! :)
Ok, to illustrate how big of a dork I am, walking through various sections of the park I had these thoughts: Ooooh! This country garden area reminds me of Sense and Sensibility. Note to self: I should watch that movie the next time I need a good cry. Colin Firth is such a fox. OHMY, this jungle area is so Jurassic Park! God, I hated that movie. Why does Laura Dern always look like she is smelling a fart? Oh, this section is totally Star Trek. This rose garden would be perfect for my wedding if I went the schmaltzy route (Author's note: I don't even have a boyfriend). I wish I was a monkey so that I could shimmy up that palm tree and throw things at that stupid twat that won't stop yammering so loudly on her cell phone. I wonder what the water bill is for this joint. All this walking is totally counting as my workout for the day. Fitflops make me sweat like a linebacker. These stretchy jeans have too much stretch. All those squats with weights are making my thighs as hard as oak trees, and as big as them. I am getting lots of Vitamin D today. Great, I am going to get a total hick sunburn today. There are more digital cameras in this place than BEES. Ahahha. I could go on and on, but I'm sure you get the idea. I don't know what is wrong with my brain.

Isn't California great! I can say that because I was just in Connecticut where everything is brown, no sign of spring there!

Beautiful photos! I like the cacti the best, they are deceptively soft and cuddly looking (the first photo, not the second).
It is never, ever dorky to think about the hotness of Colin Firth. Not one bit.

My husband did a fellowship in Pasadena several years ago. We lived at the Huntington for 6 months...wednesday thru sundays. I loved the Botanical gardens...one day I was walking in the Japanese gardens...the wind blew and all the golden ginkgo leaves blew off the trees...it was surreal and beautiful. I saved a leaf and had it in my wallet for several years until it finally just crumbled to pieces.

Beautiful pictures...thanks for the memories!

Those are really beautiful pictures. I am ready for warm weather to come around here.

At first I thought dating Billy Bob Thornton gave LD that look. But she's always been that way so we can't blame him.

These photographs are simply stunning! I thought the first was my favorite, and then I got to the next one, and THAT was my favorite, and then I got to the next one, and so on.

They're all so wonderful!!

Beautiful photos! A couple of them reminded me of something you would see in Alice in Wonderland or something (or maybe I'm just really weird).

This makes me miss SoCal so much!

I love love the Huntington!! I'm actually going there for a birthday day trip!
I waited in line to see Bukowski's crazy handwritten notes and lots of snooty professors who wanted to see the stupid gift shop more than the garden or museum.

Re Saint Paddy's: Yes, the whole "green" thing is supremely annoying. And I say that as an actual Irish person. :)
