Constipated Cat

Leo

This is my cat Leo. I had to take Leo to the vet this morning. I am not sure which one of us was more stressed about the visit. AY YI YI. I think my cats loathe going to see the vet as much as I loathe going to see any kind of doctor.

Leo has been having POOP problems.....sometimes there is a bit of bright red blood when he poops. Scary.

The vet did the routine exam. No fever, but Leo is down from 18lbs to 14lbs. He is still a VERY BIG CAT, but that is a significant weight loss that the doctor found troubling.

The vet took x-rays of my boy, plus a blood test. When the vet lit up the x-rays to show me what was going on, he said, "Your cat is full of shit." BAH!!! I laughed out loud at that! What a horrible mom! I never imagined my sweet, gentle, kind and professional Indian veterinarian would say those words about my cat.

The vet thinks the blood on stool issue is due to straining when pooping. He gave Leo a prescription for some sort of laxative, and told me to add canned pumpkin to his food (apparently canned pumpkin is filled with fiber). As I was getting ready to leave the office, the doctor said, "This laxative should make Leo shit like crazy." I guess that is a good thing, but UGH!

I have to bring Leo back for another visit on Monday to get the blood test results, and to see how the poop situation is coming along. Leo was yowling and crying and hissing and all up in arms paws about this visit, but the doctor said this visit would be NOTHING in comparison to Monday's visit if Leo has not dropped his giant load(s) by then. If his shit is still backed up on Monday, the doctor said he would have to REMOVE IT MANUALLY. Horror factor eleven!!!!

Please be ok, Leo. Please be ok. Please don't have cancer. And please let the Monday visit be FREE, as the $351.75 I had to pay today REALLY HURT. And for once in my life, I hope the shit flies forth from you in epic amounts.

TBC. Shit. TBC.

Oh my gosh! I hope he is ok and that he remembers to use this litter box when he is expelling his shit this weekend. The last thing you need is cleaning THAT up.

hilarious and ridiculous! He is a damn cute cat though . . . especially those freckles on his little nose. :)

HAHA I am literally lol-ing. I hope the shit flies forth from him too, for your sake. btw I like your cat's Hitler 'stache.

I hope your weekend is shit filled :)

Poor kitty! Good luck!

Poor Kitty. Hope the laxative helps. I can't imagine my cat eating canned pumpkin. Not even tuna flavored canned pumpkin. Does wheat grass help out at all? My cat loves it! Good luck on Monday. - G
My word verification is: cattaci. No shittin'. Really!

Oh, I hope he poops a lot and I hope you have plenty of litter. Can cats get hemrroids? That would be bad! Good luck!

Mercury *is* retrograde and - though I don't put much stock in that kind of thing - everything seems to be delayed and fucked up and crappy (or not, as the case may be) right now. I'm sure your lovely kitty is going to be ok. Just OD on the pumpkin...

Good luck...I hope everything works out for you and your handsome boy. (And he IS handsome). I just dropped $221+ on my Gabby last month. BFF found a lump on her belly, and I took her to the vet to have it biopsied. Fortunately it was just a fatty tumor/cyst, nothing serious. I was sooo relieved.

And for your sake, I hope he fills that litter box full o' crap!

Oh deary. I hate vet visits as well, and Turtles also has shit issues ..it SUCKS! he has more of a loose stool issue at times ugh...his cat pants can get messy at times...yuck. he has also had the blood problems. i worry so hard when it comes to my cats and their health.
Does Leo get violent and crazy at the vet? They had to get another nurse in to hold Turts down...it was so embarassing..hehehe.

I'm sure your buddy Leo will be shitting up a storm before you know it and this will all be over.
He'll be okay, don't worry.
He is gorgeous btw. :D

Ewww.

I hate poop. And I happen to hate cats.

Sooooo... Ewwwwwwwwww.

And to get back at you, as a nurse, I've manually dug poop out of PEOPLE.

So there.

ohhh, poor baby. but the laxative should help.

i know i feel rotten when i have that problem (can't poop)

The Cottage Cheese said...

Oh no - poor Leo! I do hope that the pumpkin and laxative do the trick. Poor kittie won't like a big hand up the arse. And egads, that's a hell of a vet bill! One of my pups needs to have a benign growth removed (that keeps getting bigger and bigger), and I just know it's going to cost more money than dammit.

There once was a kitty names Leo,
Who's poop was packed tight in his A-ho.
He made a huge turd,
Much rejoicing was heard,
And thence he was happy as could be-O!

Sorry to hear your kitty is plugged up and hope the meds do the trick over the weekend (and makes it to the litterbox!) and hope he will be fine on Monday when you take him back in.

Poor Leo

And poor you

I hope he's ok, and I hope he has been making good use of the litter tray

HAHAHAHA. I've been told I'm full of shit too. But I guess not in a literal way. Leo should eat kiwifruit. Kiwifruit is best for these problems.

ooohhhh, hope he is ok!

Oh no, poor guy. How uncomfortable he must be!

Poop Leo, poop!!!

Kristine said...

Poor little big guy! Hope he poops like crazy. Nothing like a good poo to make everything better. What he lacks in poo production he makes up for in devilishly handsome good looks.
Good luck!

HAHAHAHAA!!! k sorry for laughing but your vet used the word "shit" in medical terms. that's fucking funny!

sorry about your cat's poop problems (and the horrid bill that came attached). hope he heels up quickly.

shit leo. shit.

Awww poor kitty! (he's a cute cat btw :))
Lets hope that stuff works, and you are up to your ears in cat shit asap! hahaha! nah, i mean i hope he shits its all out, but within a small radius hehe :D
Your vet sounds like a character!
This actually reminds me of when my daughter was just a newborn, and i had to take her to the hospital to get her poo out, because she hadn't done it for a whole week. Just thought you'd like to know that :D But seriously, it was scary, and pets are like kids, so i know how distressing it must be :(

may the shit flow like a river !!!!

I love it when the doctors have a sense of humor. Too bad it didn't come into play when they were figuring out your bill. Poor Leo, I'm sure he'll be fine.

My cat has also had some poo problems in her life - its looks petrified when it comes out it's so dry. Ewww. So I started giving her a little wet food each morning since she was clearly dehydrated and it seemed to do the trick. Now we have human sized poos in both bathrooms. bwahahahaha!

Good luck!

poor kitty!!! But that is hilarious~~

Sry...not too damn funny, but only because I know many possibilities of wnat can be up with feline digestive woes like this. In short: it can be very dire.
I hope he doesn't need surgery or anything. I hope the pumpkin worked, if you got him to eat it...sometimes petromalt or straight butter will help too. And the weight loss....it's never good to see a kitty lose weight like that....

Well best wishes for you both of you today...Leo has got some gorgeous EYES, btw WOW!

oh no, poor leo! i hope everything goes okay today at the vet. hopefully he just needs a change in diet. hang in there.

Pretty Little World said...

Yikes!! I hope that Leo is doing a bit better by now!! I kind of love your vet's sense of humor though, and if you weren't an entire country's length away from me, I'd switch.

Isn't it also crazy that taking your pet to the vet costs more than if you had to pay out of pocket to see a doctor?

Diana said...

Ouch! Poor Leo!! Keep up updated on his big cat issue. My kitten had diarrhea but was in pain each time he went. Yes it was super expensive for the vet to simply tell us to change litter and then give him less wet food -_-

Ela said...

Leo is so darn adorable!!! I just want to squish him. 4lbs??? Oh gosh that's awful.I hope he gains it all back! Your Dr. is hilarious. But for that price, he BETTER make you laugh. Gosh that's steep.
