Black Don't Crack

I turn 40 pretty soon. GULP. So of course I have entered that "obsessed with wrinkles" stage of life. So far I don't have many wrinkles [YAY, but I probably just jinxed myself by writing that!], but I pretty much know it is only a matter of time before they start creeping up on me. :[

In my obsessive musings about wrinkles, I have noticed that the saying "black don't crack" is pretty much true. Women of color tend to have such beautiful, rich, and WRINKLE-FREE SKIN. Truth be told, I'm a bit jealous.

Um, I've also made another observation when studying the ladies and their wrinkles. A few extra pounds can help in the wrinkle department. The bag-of-bones rich bitches that I see in Beverly Hills that are seemingly in a MAD RUSH to get emaciated and try to compete with the young bitches, tend to look A-W-F-U-L. The more thin they are, the worse the wrinkles look.

Woa every ladies' skin here is like flawless. I'm jealous. Even Diana Ross's face is pretty much wrinkle free. Good for her! Yeah about the pounds definitely. You always notice on the biggest loser that the older people that lose weight get more wrinkles. I dunno I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for when I get older!!

The weight thing is so true! When someone drops a ton of weight all their wrinkles come out. So maybe if we get super fat we won't get wrinkles! good plan?

Missy said...

I am going on a diet to gain about ten pounds. If I could only distribute the weight where I wanted it. Let's just say, I have a wrinkle free ass! LOL

You are hilarious! I've never heard 'black don't crack' but it appears to be true!

And you know what else? They all have nice eyebrows too! (I'm obsessed with my eyebrow arch these days.) As I get older, they seem harder and harder to tame. I also worry more about sagging than wrinkles when it comes to aging. Wrinkles can be hidden with make-up, a sagging chin? Not so much.- G

Raina Cox is correct. Congratulations on becoming 40.
It's a wonderful age for a girl.
I have a few yeras to go till then.
The ladies above are all looking fabulous!! Warmly hopes you are well.

Those are some gorgeous women! And yeah, I've heard from my esthetician friends that having a plumper face definitely helps with wrinkles. Hurray! {hahahahaha}

I'm 36 so I'm pretty much feeling the same way as you. I'm also white as a freakin' ghost and freckle super easily, so I started the 'preventative maintenance' years ago. Thankfully it's been working for me. I agree... a little pudge can work in favor of the face, it's just too bad any pudge I put on doesn't go there... it would rather go to my neck and my midsection. Not so flattering.

collagen is fat...so when they are so bone skinny it dosn't plump out their wrinkles. my SIL is bone thin and I see more wrinkles on her and she's 10 years younger than me.

What, you don't have wrinkles??? I do... But then I also combine all bad attributes that lead to wrinkles: Growing up in Australia (in a time when sun screen wasn't even in the dictionary), being red haired, slightly on the emaciated side and WORSE OF ALL - looking at the big 40 from the other side than you. See, it could be worse for you!

i think that's why people tan so much. totally backfires on em though.

right so basically i need to do a reverse michael jackson to be wrinkle free? sign me up.

Such beautiful ladies here! I freakin love Lauren Hill- she's so gorgeous! Happy almost 40!

They are all beautiful....My mom has always been on the overweight side and her round, roly poly face does not have a wrinkle on it. She is 83. Lots of other health issues but nobody will believe she is 83!

Envious is the only word that comes to mind. I'm 25 and already have wrikles.

That's why fillers are so popular...gives you a nice rounded look...more youthful!

That's so funny you mention this today. A friend was telling me that while watching Oprah she said she was lucky because black don't crack. It's totally true! *sigh* I have some wrinkles but try really hard to keep my skin out of the sun. I am so pale...

haha, you are so right. i always cursed my oily skin.. until i hit my mid-20s, ever since i've thought of it as a blessing!

I was reading about this super apple in Switzerland in an old Vogue this weekend... check this out: http://www.lumene.com/default.asp?docId=30493

Apparently the apple lasts for months without spoiling and repairs tears it its skin so they're now adding the extract to beauty products.

They sell the apple extract in other, more expensive products, but the Lumene ExCELLent repair lotion has it and it's close to $30.

I'm getting it SOON! It's worth a shot, right?!

dude...that statement is so true. makes me wish i was black too. have you heard the comedic skit about the old black man who likes to be asked about his age b/c he looks 50 as opposed to 78. it's a hoot and so right on.

latins are somewhat ok when it comes to aging. my grandma had wrinkles but she was the cutest damn thing ever w/the blackest hair so it didnt matter.

...as I stroke my skin...LOL!

And right on (had to say that on this post) to thickness in the hips means more fullness on the lips. (doesn't make sense but it rhymes, so roll with it!)

I've been trying to tell the chicks at Weight Watchers that their skin is gonna suffer but they keep insisting on revoking my membership? Why? What did I say? I'm just trying to help!He he he!

Those women are all so gorgeous! I'm totally pale but I stay out of the sun to avoid getting wrinkly one day... let's hope it works!

Heff said...

It's pretty obvious, but ALL of the women you pictured have the money to fix any facial imperfections anyway....

i've always thougth black women have the most gorgeous skin the world!!! it seems so flawless and glowing. i am supa PALE and need to stay out of the sun. i remember the nanny saying once you either gotta keep ass or keep face, she chose to keep face. i think i would choose to keep face too. i wish it was possible to do both.

I'm 40 and very pale. But everyday I give thanks for the chipmunk cheeks I've been, er, *blessed* with :)

I think this is true but all the gals here I think have possibly had a tiny bit of help also from botox injections. I don't mean to rain on their parade, but I think that might be the case too.

ugh! *haha!

My boss once told me that when women get to a certain age they can either keep their face (by being fat) or keep their body (and have an ugly wrinkly face)

He used Teri Hatcher as an example because he knew her dad through work and pointed out that her body is flawless but Ugh that face.

I decided against asking him which one his wife kept :)

Kathryn said...

I think it all comes down to genetics in certain bloodlines, not necessarily race, but the fatty factor would be one way to plump out the skin.

Lost is so good! glad you're getting into it. Sawyer is gorgeous... I know and his dialogue is so funny and perfect with his southern accent, but I don't know... I just have a thing for Jack haha

dont forget them asian ladies! my mom is gonna be fifty soon and she still looks forty-ish!

i hope you wear sunscreen everyday. It helps in the long run (i have been since I was 13!)

part of it is the fat content. people w/ meat on their bones fill out their skin whereas people w/ less meat....more wrinkles. that being said, i've also noticed that people of color (men and women) never seem to look their age, always look younger. and? if i swung both ways i'd totally do halle berry. my god that woman is hawt!

Halle Berry is a FEMBOT. One day she will beam back up to the mothership and everyone will see that it is not natural to continue looking as good as one did in "Bulworth."

Can I get an AMEN on the "black don't crack" and even more so on the few extra pounds. It is so true. It also makes me feel a bit better for not being rail thin.

Wish you get the chance to escape work for a day or two and get out of Hell-Ay. The trip just up to SB was reviving!!

hahaha so true. Love the line about the bag-of-bones rich bitches. Sucks for them! :op

Asians do decently in the skin department do. That and they're obsessed with skin products.

I'm sure you look great dear!

They all look wonderful

I also think Asians do well in this area. I was trying to come up with a catchy phrase but "Asians don't raisin" popped into my head and I can't move on from that. My friend's ex-boyfriend (who happens to be half-Asian, like me) had a "Yoda theory" regarding Asian women, which is that they look much younger than their biological age until they hit their 70s, then overnight they turn into Yoda. I think it has something to do with them not being bothered to dye their hair black anymore!

Those "face versus ass" women often stay super-skinny Jennifer Aniston-style and get heaps of Botox and whatnot (and air-brushing!) to their faces but if you look at their skin around their elbows and necks, it is a real horror show. Ugh.

lol. Amen sister, a-men. So true about skinny bitches ...you can really only be that skinny in your early 20's, when you're baby fat still resides on your face.

Alisa said...

I have a girlfriend visiting and she just said that saying. Her skin is perfect! I am so jealous!

I also have noticed the fatter my face less wrinkly. Catherine Deneuve said "A 30-year-old woman must choose between her bottom and her face." It is true!! I would say a 45 year old, 30 is too young to have to start choosing!

Miss Caitlin S. said...

totally agree!! I have always been envious of the condition of african-american's skin! Beautiful. And yeah about the BH ladies you mention- always reminds me of my favorite stacey london and clinton kelly line: "When you dress like an 19 year old, you look like you're trying to compete with a 19 year old and guess what? They always win"

morgan said...

This is oh-so-true and quite a slap in the face for us on the verge of 40, but let's be crystal clear about one thing: 90% of these ladies have a face FULL of Botox. So it's not all theirs that God gave them, okay?

Yay birthday. I turned 30 this year scared the crap out of me. Found my first gray hair 2 weeks before wanted to kill someone.

Yep they look awesome the bitches lol

I met a lovely lady who was on the large side she said it best I guess fat preserves. Natural fill to the wrinkles.

GRATEFUL for my chubby cheeks!! on both ends, lol.

Halle Barry is the only pretty girl listed. Jada Pinkett Smith is not to bad either... that said, the rest are either fugly, fat, or obese. Not to mention likely famous and photoshopped.

How about some other images to put it in real perspect:

Trust me you can find bad pics of all these people as well... makeup and botox. In person, I find that most people who are unhealthy and unfit, look like it, black or white. Those who take care of themselves can be over 60 and still look beautiful.

Also I'm probably in the minority here.... but I love fair/pale skin, I think it's beautiful. There is beautiful skin of all shades, but I am very happy being a fair skinned female who stays away from tanning beds and doesn't fake bake.

Hello everyone,

Most of these comments here are subtly racist, and it's shameful. There are many women of color that I know personally who have not a wrinkle on their face at 45, and who are not overweight. I also know many overweight white women whose faces are full of wrinkles. This article was posted to celebrate our biological differences. It is absolutely true that white women with oily skin develop less wrinkles--my best friend is one of these women. If this article were about oily skin, I doubt there would be comments about the weight of the women in the pictures or whether they are pretty. I, as a white women, wish I could look like Iman at 50+!!
