Mani / Petty

IMG_2359

I went for a pedicure today, and all went well. Whew. Sometimes I am not so lucky at nail salons.

I kind of dread going in for a mani/pedi.  I kind of hate dealing with the whole thing of sitting there for a half an hour plus, engaging in mind-numbing chit chat, hoping they will do a good job, yada yada.  But I reallly don't want to do my OWN feet, so I endure the process on occasion.

If you frequent a nail salon for a while, you quickly learn which ladies do a good job, and which ones don't. I used to go to this place in West Hollywood all the time: All Star Nails.  It didn't take long for me to figure out that the older woman with a station at the very back of the shop always did a CRAP job. Just horrible. It was kind of like she was over the job (can't say I blame her), and that she was repulsed by human touch (lady you're in the wrong business).  She flat-out refused to do pedicures. MAJOR ATTITUDE.  And she always seemed to be sporting a really ugly sneer on her face.  I really couldn't stand her.

So anyway, one day I went into this nail salon and they told me to go to the back station and that this old warhorse lady would do my mani/pedi. So I said, "No, I don't like that one." Well, maybe that wasn't the most TACTFUL thing to say, but you would have thought I had detonated a bomb in the shop. The ladies went WILD. Everyone was yammering at full tilt in Vietnamese, no doubt at the AUDACITY I had to say I didn't want service from Madam Lackluster. Whatever.  On to the next nail salon!  LOL.

The shot above isn't so great, and I blame my cat Peanut. Any time I am laying down, he is all over me.  THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID! HA. It makes me laugh, but it isn't always conducive to taking photos or reading a book.

And if any of you noticed my HORRENDOUS swollen right ankle in the pic above, I am fully aware of how jacked up it is. I sprained my ankle over a year ago, and it just REFUSES to heal properly. Annoying!

This post is all over the map.  Please forgive.  It is 400 degrees here today, and I just cannot think. But at least my toes look good.  LOL.

painting by Tracy Porter

P.S. One more random note...I scored this adorable little painting for $44.  FORTY FOUR DOLLARS FOR AN ORIGINAL PAINTING.  Stoked!!!  STOKED!!!!!

I love that you said "No, I don't like that one." HA! I rarely get pedicures--maybe twice a year. I actually like going to the salons with the crazy amazing massaging spa chairs, but I also like doing my own nails/toes. It's sort of a relaxing ritual for me.

Oh I needed that too ;-)
Nice feet, by the way.

I have never had a pedicure. Or a manicure for that matter. It is one of those silly, "o I can do that myself, why pay for it" things. One day, though. One day.
I was going to mention that I thought that painting had a place of distinction on your wall. No surrounding do-dads to compete with the artwork. Nice.
And to Peanut, "good kitty".
Peace~

1. I love your Spanish-y house. Like. Love it.

2. I did notice your ankle only to think that it matches the swollen-ness of my own jacked up ankle.

3. I LOVE that little painting. love it.

4. Your photos are all awesome!!!!!!!!!! Peanut is KING!

5. I hate mani-pedis too. But you already know that. lol

I almost blogged about my bad pedi experience the other day, the guy next to my dude was talking NON-STOP, and I think he was the owner. Won't go back there. your toesies look bee-youtiful!

I know what you mean about dreading a mani/pedi... I can't stand how long it takes to complete the process, and it never fails that either the water is too hot or they put that hot gel crap in a bag around my feet and scald me. Needless to say I don't usually go for the extra spa treatment since that's where the hot wax comes into play.

I've been debating on going with a friend of mine tomorrow to get one. I think I may have to have some wine to relax and enjoy myself. Isn't that terrible? I should be able to enjoy getting a bit of pampering. AT least I've found a place where the foreign language is kept to a minimum... I think its so disrespectful when they are blabbing to each other as if no one else is around.

Your toesies look fahhhbulous!

Toes look great and the painting is adorable! Nice score!

Toes look great! Would you believe that I've ever gotten 1 pedicure? I think it has to do a bit with your scenario... The whole situation is a bit intimidating to me. My toes sure could use the attention though.

I HATE it when I get the gals that don't do as well. I feel cheated!

love the painting and kitty. i have only had a pedi three times. two first times were awesome and had no idea my feet were always supposed to be that soft. so i try to do it on my own but they're just never as good.

i was so excited the third time but was LET DOWN. probably went to the same lady you had or atleast a family member. sucked.

red lolita toes all the way!

Mani/petty, HA. I see what you did there!

I never have the balls to say which girl I want, although if you go to a place regularly enough it's obvious which girls are the best. I always suck it up if I get an iffy one and pray that it doesn't turn out looking like I have a mangled pigeon foot.

Cute painting! I just bought my first big girl piece of artwork too!!

I am in love with your nail color, your yellow walls, and that painting! And I feel you on going to the nail salon. It's a necessary evil, I guess!

I have been going to the same salon for about 10 years and the same person has been doing my manis and pedis for about 7 ... I just realized how lucky I am that I have found someone who does such a good job!
Hey you are paying you have the right to chose...
Just read Neals comment, think you got an admirer...

Just when I disclosed my age I now feel compelled to admit that I NEVER had a pedi (or a mani), although I'd love to, but I always wonder about feet and nail fungus and if they are really clean enough with their materials in these places. (Paranoid, I know.)
But lovely job and pretty feet and your cat is looking well, so I hope she's recovered. xo

I love your little painting...it was the first thing I noticed...then your ankle. Because, I did the same thing about a year and a half ago. I stepped off a curb wrong at a client's house. Twisted it horribly. It STILL doesn't look right! Then I was drunk after a Christmas party last year and broke my little toe coming out of the bathroom. My feet are a mess!

Your kitty is darling...I hate getting pedicures because I walk around barefoot all day, so you can imagine the shape my heels are in! And my pedicurist talks from the minute I sit down...ignoring her doesn't work, I've tried.

they are looking so great!!!! i've never had a pedi...i don't want people to touch my feet EVER. hehehe. i'm one of those weird feety people. they are like a private part to me.
that little painting is adorable.
and PEANUT is such a sweety ginger kitty! i need to do a ginger kitty post dammit. i have been meaning to for like a year.
i love getting original art.

And OMG ... Peanut looks almost EXACTLY like my cat, Thurman. Position and all. :)

i'm am terrible about letting people touch my feet and there's nothing worse that paying for a service and having a grouchy grouch take care of you. i love the bright, cheery colors you have in your home (from what i can see anyway). looks like my kinda place.

Love your painting! Looks great on your wall. Your cat, so sweet! Toes, lovely!

I love pedicure, though I almost always do them myself.

Yesterday my son came home from camp and told me that the camp counselor was asking the kids to choose a team name and Evan yelled out "How about - That's what she said" and they chose that as their team name. Ha! Thanks to Michael on "The Office".

I got a pedicure about 2.5 weeks ago and I still can't stop raving about it! IT'S THAT GOOD!! Hasn't chipped in the least. I'm totally going back to that salon and that woman (she has braces, that's all I know about her). Well worth the 25 minute drive IMO.

The pedi looks great and I admire you for telling them you didn't want that pedicurist. Go Drollgirl go!

I love your yellow wall and your painting, it's adorable. I love pedicures in the Summer but I'd like to learn to say "I know what you're saying about me" in Vietnamese!
You know what's helpful, too? bringing your ipod/mp3 to listen to. They leave you ALONE!! I love it.

and your kitty is so precious!!!!
