14-year old American fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson has been referred to as the "frontline of fashion".  She is reportedly the muse for many fashion designers.

Your thoughts on this, por favor.

Um ... sure?

I don't like her look - but then again - I wouldn't know haute couture if it came up and beat the Wal-Mart outta me. Soooo ....

13? The grey hair? I guess I've officially reached that age where I'm grumbling about "kids today"....

I'm a lil confused by her honestly. Are all these pics the same girl cuz her hair is a different color in some? I know lil 13 year olds want to look older but as an old lady? hmmm...I don't know. The lil hand on the glasses pose is cute!

Hey lady I'm running a small giveaway! Don't miss out!
Mini Random Giveaway!

yeah, i just don't get it. it seems that fashion these days is all about how much shit you can pile on and mismatch? i dunno...

and who WANTS grey hair at 13??

LOL best.title.ever.

Katie said...

um??

i love old ladies and little girls that dress up but...um?? you go girl?

I don't get many of her outfits, but I happen to think she's brilliant. It's nice to see a young girl who has her own ideas and doesn't follow the pack. She's a great writer and has a very good head on her shoulders. I say more power to her.

WendyB said...

Her hair is red now! And I think she just turned 14 :-)
I'm pretty sure!

Lexy of BeautyFash said...

some of her "outfits" are very Lady GaGa meets the Olsen twins. She was much cuter without the gray hair... gray hair on a 13 year old is just wrong. lol!

It's funny to my how piled on, messing and thrown together clothing is considered "fashionable". Guess that's what you call "homeless-chic"? *blank stare* This post title is hilarious!!

So, I'm not into the overly eclectic look but....the girl does know her shiz!

um she is flippin ADORABLE!!! why haven't i heard of her before?! her style is so unique and even though its not my taste, it is something to appreciate. for a 13 year old, she has more style than most bitches my age...and thats for real!

not so into the gray hair though.

Dancing Branflake said...

Kudos to her confidence. I just wonder what it's like not having friends her own age. I mean, I am assuming her peers don't really go out with her in public when she's dressed like that.

Lorena said...

This is outrageous.
She is a child, although I have to say I do give her some credit.
Someone has got to be high. Really high.

I KNEW I'd seen that style before.

A former etsy darling.

I don't know about the hair, but she'd better tie up those big ol' black shoes or she'll break she'll break her stylish little neck!

Gabby said...

Honestly, I don't get it. Not at all.

thelayeredpancake said...

14 years old! does she have legal adult guardians? this is so wtf. apart from the whole old person thing, she looks like she needs some food! WEIRD .

Sometimes I think the fashion world just goes for shock value. I can't see why anyone would use this little gal as a trend setter, but she does make me want to run home and throw some oddball items on, then call it good & head out the door. why did she go with gray hair, tho? hmmm...

The problem with Tavi is that behind the frumpy front sits a rather gorgeous face, and she's a pretty good writer, too. I guess that makes her attractive to the fashion industry (and naturally that investing in her now will bring profit for a looooooooooooooooong time, since she's only a baby.)

Christiejolu said...

Cute...I don't really like her fashion choices...But she is cute...Kind of reminds me of a young Michelle Williams...

Char said...

uh...yeah. more like...no.

Raina Cox said...

I don't get this girl in any way, shape, or form.

And I don't think it's because I'm 41.

Katy Mary said...

Wow. She is part cute and part creepy. Maybe more creepy than cute. Should a child that young be allowed to dress like that? and wtf is going on with the gray hair?!

Kara said...

Homegirl wears some kookoo fashion, but she is a brilliant writer. Honestly I find her rather refreshing, albeit a wee bit bizarre. Really though, which of us ISN'T bizarre in one way or another?

vint junky said...

I really like her style! She's like a mini Issy Blow. Why not pile it on and have fun?

And when i think about some of the crazy goth metal get ups i used wear aged 14...pah, this is tame ;)

Kaz said...

I shudder to think of what I was wearing at 14. I think I thought I was the coolest thing, but fashion didn't rule my life.

Not sure how I feel about her. Maybe a bit sad for a 'lost' childhood, but I guess kids grow up a heck of a lot faster these days

Farah said...

ummm...kinda creepy if you ask me...then again I'm no fashion guru...

Shelley said...

I honestly don't get why people love her... if I had money I could dress like a rich homeless person too ;) I respect that she is really getting her name out there, but the girl really seems to be trying just a tad too hard.

I love the title, very fitting! I don't get the gray hair on a 14 yr old... or the grandma chic clothing, or maybe frumpy grandma would be more accurate.

XOXO

I am intrigued! She is very bazaar! I will ask my fashion obsessed daughter about her. Thanks for the lead!

Sam said...

She is very sophisticated for one so young. At that age I was gafawing to Monty Python and roller skating in high waisted corduroy flairs!

Kitten said...

Not really a fan of her work. I'll check out her blog and see what else I can find.

Caitlin said...

I love Tavi! Have you spent any time reading her blog? Because she's smart as a whip and mature beyond her age--you might actually enjoy reading about what she has to say about school, etc.

Fashion is art like anything else, I think. Some of it is mainstream and most people can appreciate that. Some of it is avant garde and it appeals to a more unique audience. She's really adorable to me, though. Frankly, I don't "get" haute couture and I never have. Not a huge fan. But I can appreciate an artistic vision and this kid definitely has one.

diane said...

I looked at the first photo, and was like "I know this girl", and then I was all "omg, it's Tavi!".
Absolutely, I love her. Ever been to her web page?

Loved your comment, btw. xo

I find it very interesting...

rach said...

ummm hmmmm cant quite make up my mind. i mean she looks like harriet the spy who is playing the incognito grandmother. if the fashion world is proclaiming 14 year olds as the forefront of fashion I think its time I gave up attempting to keep up haha.

We idolize the weirdest shit in this country. It's clothes. Remember the 70's? or 80's for that matter. I can see this stuff sticking around for a long time ;-P
It's "whatever".

Isabel said...

i dont want to say anything bad about someone who is basically a kid..but im not a fan of the style...nothing aesthetically pleasing about it.

R said...

Granny always told me if I couldn't say anything nice then I shouldn't say anything.

Tavi is her own person, and that's what makes her wonderful. Stop the hate!

Christina In Wonderland said...

Oh great... another Lady Gaga wannabe.

Adiya said...

What part of this is 'front line of fashion'?? I'm really tired of people thinking ugly outfits are 'creative' or 'front line'. Damn! My eyes hurt!!

Kathryn said...

Teens usually pick a role model then practice developing their personal style by imitating that person. I guess she picked her Grandma. Maybe 14 is the new 50.

I spend a good chunk of change to keep the gray at bay and it is rather surprising that anyone would intentionally try to make their hair gray.

libbeh ♥ said...

*YAWN* She may be a "fashion prodigy/muse" but homegirl is definitely not unique IMO. My middle school bestie & I wore weird Granny Chic crap like Tavi, sans the gray hair of course, in the 90s and we were called "hags", "freaks", and "weirdos". She kind of reminds me of a younger Michelle Williams.

Moonlight Serenade said...

She really, really bothers me. She just looks annoying and maybe I don't understand fashion... but REALLY? she's considered stylish?! ugghh haha. Sorry I have like a million pet peeves that are being brought up with her.

Rachael said...

How can anyone see Tavi as anything but awesome?!!

I think she's awesome. Doesn't matter that I wouldn't wear what she does, I'm 37, frumpy, and have had my young teen weird fashion phase.

Not sure why people are so critical of her?

Rachael said...

Oh and one more thing, you know what else I love, she's so obviously not dressing for the opposite sex, or to be sexy unlike so many other teens out there...I love that she really is dressing for herself and what she likes. How great is that?

Jennifer DeDonato said...

I think she's kinda cute and beats to her own drum. Yay for her.

Susan Erickson said...

Grey hair on a child is just wrong!...her thrift store finds are just awful! Is she wanting to be OLD or something?

Kristine said...

Perfect title!! I don't get fashion, I really don't. I am now bitter that a fourteen year old is making me feel like an underachiever, nasty wizened little creature!!

i was wondering where my daughter ran off to...

hope505 said...

ehh...kinda cool to check her out from a distance. I support her doing what she likes/wants to do....but yeah, she's still such a wee one! *haha A wee one that gets sent free stuff from Miu Miu and Missoni in the mail! Wouldn't that just knock you right out at the ripe old age of 14? *haha! She gets some hits, and some misses (big ol bow+front row @ fashion week = miss IMO) "As the twig is bent, so grows the tree" or whatev. so I just hope she 'grows right' and doesn't end up all jaded by the age of 19. *HA! or dead from ED's, no joke there Tavi be careful! It's FASHION!

blueviolet said...

I can deal with her fashion options, but the gray hair...not so sure!

besswess said...

I want to put her in my pocket. Take away the crazy clothes and that is my best friend from childhood. Kinda crazy. I love her following. Good for her!

"I make quirky faces with my lips and that makes me cute"

um, you know how I feel about this. No need to express it with written word. :)

Sister Wolf said...

"Good for her!" Oh god, we're just not allowed to be creeped out by her. The "brilliant writing" excuse is just tragic. Thanks for the chance to be a commenter and not the big meanie!!!!!!!!! xo

Zoƫ said...

I don't knock her choice of outfits (to each their own, I truly believe) but for a child to be this precocious and intelligent I wish it were for something else rather than fashion for fucks sake.

Gabbi said...

She's so cute! I love the shy expression on her face while she carries a Chanel bag. :)
