There Are Worse Things Than Working in a Cubicle / I Always Feel Like Somebody's Watching Me

there are worse things than working in a cubicle
this is my desk. and guess who sits across from me behind that glass window?  THE BOSS.  just shoot me.

Dude. This week has been brutal. We moved our gallery back into our freshly renovated space. The renovated space looks gorgeous, but moving SUCKS ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS and this whole stupid week has been extremely stressful.

And now I am back to sitting right outside of my boss' office. And, yes, his office has a gigantic window which allows him to stare at me like a mental patient ALL DAY LONG. It drives me out of my fucking mind. And it reminds me of this song.

SIGH. Oh well. At least the weekend is near. :]

Eugh that sucks. I'm so addicted to not doing actual work. I bet he loves being able to spy too. <3 that song.

OMG...that would suck. And this song...LOL...I loved it. When was that? 1980? Gah!!!

Never heard that song until recently on the I Am Number Four movie, but how fitting. Sorry about the boss, thing. I know JUST how you feel about the moving thing though. Last month at my job we moved to a new location only to have to move again in a few months. I HATED packing and unpacking all our stuff. What's worse is that the temporary location was an old Sherwin Williams warehouse. No windows! Not a one! It feels so creepy.

lmao...at the song in relation to your situation. however your situation sucks. is this permanent? how can they allow that?? does your boss like this? like wouldn't he want privacy too?! i would go skitz.
ohhhh....weekend here she comes!

hope things are going well, kitty style!!

totally rockin' to the song, btw. :D

You could suggest they put in those mirror things from police interrogation rooms. You wouldn't know when you were being watched I'm sure that would be much better lol

Oh I hear you! I don't have a cubicle I just have a computer on a desk and my boss's office door is always open so he can see my monitor aka why I ALWAYS willingly check your blog sometimes after work. =) I long for a cubicle these days.

Wow, I guess I am old because I remember this song when it came out and Michael Jackson being pissed because he was just doing the boss a favor and supposed to be one of many background voices to help launch Berry Gordy, Jr. (who was the head of Motown Records at the time) son's career and ended up having all of the other backup voices filtered out in the chorus and people easily recognizing Michael's voice (which was at the peak of its popularity then - pre-child molestation charges) and thinking it was a Jackson family song. (A year before the Jackson Family was on tour and making people pre-book and limiting sales per person and selling out). No wonder this was a one-hit wonder.

As to your dilemma...I'd find an awesome poster to put up in the window, like one of those suck up inspirational like "Success is not the position you stand in, but the direction in which you look" or "Their is on I" in team with a slick picture and stick in the window and tell everyone it pumps me up to do my best work every day.

ummm that's harsh. I would surely end up going bat shit crazy and rampaging thru the office smashing stuff along the way to the door.

Hahahaha, sorry for your boss-nearness-induced misery but . . . the picture, the song . . . can't help it, it's kinda funny. And I'm kinda jealous of your computer. But not your proximity to your boss. I work in SF and my boss is in Berkeley . . . which is pretty awesome.

Go find the tackiest readymade window treatments WalMart makes and hang them over the weekend.

I used to love that song. It's on our Halloween play list.

I'm sorry that you're under a microscope at work. Is your boss tolerable though? (I mean, as bosses go...?)

Urgh. I hate that. The studio I teach at has a video camera set up so that not only can the parents watch us but they can also listen to us. Urgh!

That's a room without a view if I ever saw one. Nice background though.

Was unfamiliar with that song. Nice introduction to it;-)
I feel we are all observed these days - nothing is private. Have a nice weekend.

that sucks!! its like working in a fishbowl....and moving offices? I can only imagine. At least its done and over with! and I hope your boss gets some blinds for that window! haha

i know this song for sure, haha. but i didn't know about all that background as provided by your reader.

before my org underwent physical transformation, the management considered "walking the walk" by doing the hot-desking thing like every other staff member, i.e. the big boss could be sitting right next to me or opposite me if she so chooses. of course, i could likewise choose to NOT sit near the big boss, but that's if there're other empty desks around when i reach the office. the end, they ditched the idea for a valid reason. i think it's a relief for most of us, haha.

it should be "walking the talk". bleh.

I would prop something up on the windowsill and get a little privacy. I mean how do you check for spinach in your teeth etc. Maybe a lovely painting?....you must have a few of those kicking around.....

For the record: HE DOES JUST SIT ON THE PHONE AND STARE IN THIS DIRECTION ...it's very strange. Like he's in a trance or something.

I would DIE if my boss sat across from me and watched me all day long. You deserve medals for dealing with it.
