Inked!

About a month ago I adopted a 7-year old rescue kitty named Inky. It has been a little t-r-i-c-k-y getting him to feel comfortable in his new home, but things have slowly and steadily gotten better and better. He is a nutter, but that is pretty much a POT CALLING THE KETTLE kind of statement as I am a nutter too!

Inky was petrified and hiding constantly when I first got him, and he would run from me any time he saw me. Sometimes he still runs away, but sometimes he cozies up to me (particularly around meal time!) for lots of petting, cuddling, head butting and belly rubbing. My favorite times are when he is purring out affection, and I just have to leave him alone when he is in a stand-off-ish mood. THANKFULLY the LOVE ME LOVE ME moments are happening more and more often. Whee! :)

inky

Note: Sometimes Inky SCARES ME.  He is big and strong and willful, and he could do some damage if he wanted to.  But I guess you could say that about a lot of things.  He really is a sweetie, but every now and again he verges into SCARY LARRY TERRITORY, and that can be a bit intimidating.

Side Note: In many ways me and my feline friend are A LOT ALIKE.  Make of that what you will.

On a sad note, I had to put my problem child Leo down.

IMG_0721

Leo had so many health issues over the last year or two, and it just had to be done. Fucking bawlfest. This happened weeks ago, but I couldn't bring myself to blog about it. Sometimes words of sympathy [not to mention pictures like this one - WAH!!!] just bring on too many tears. Wah. All good things must end, which pretty much SUCKS ASS. Leo was a great friend, and hopefully he and Peanut (and Bear, Jag, Tigger, Bone, Ghost and Gunslinger -- yeesh I have had a lot of pets since I was a kid) and all other fabulous perished pets in the world are frolicking off in the land of sunshine and fun.

Anywhoo, cheers to the pets that bring so much JOY to so many!  :)

I have a few pet friends that will be frolicking with Leo:) So happy to hear that Inky is adjusting to his new home.

ps you had me cracking up when you mentioned he sometimes scared you. I used to live with a cat that scared the crap out of me. He would just stare at my face like he wanted to rip it off...

Aawww...so sorry to hear that Leo got his angel-wings

it isn't any consolation, I know, but at least he is pain-free now, and he and the others are always with you...your spirit-cats...

And Inky! So handsome! What I do sometimes if my guy gets a little "scary" (read:playing too rough, biting) and the squirt bottle isn't handy (if Inky is shy already you might not want to use a squirt bottle!) is throw a cloth over him. Anything handy...a hoodie, a towel, a T-shirt...it gives the cat a second to calm the f&%k down and remember that he loves you, that he's safe at home, playing, or w/e. And my cat is literally 1/2 wildcat, so it might work for you?

Awww... poor Leo. Poor you too. I know what it is to lose a furry kid, and it sucks pretty bad.

On the plus side, yay Inky!

Awww :( So sorry about your kitty
I am glad your new friend is relaxing a bit

Incidentally my cat is fully adjusted and like SIXTEEN YEARS OLD and lived with us the entire time but still occasionally gets this psychotic look in her eyes and then lashes out with her claws. At least she gives you a short warning

I hope Inky gets more and more comfortable!

I'm so sorry for Leo... I can't even imagine having to do what you did. Hope Inky brings you much kitty joy!

Oh, too much goodbye sadness in too short a time... My mom used tell me that when a kitty dies it goes to the big litter box in the sky. That would make me giggle through the tears. Inky sounds like your shadow. An bit of coincidence?

Still sorry to hear about Leo, but hopefully he's in a happy place right now. Good to hear Inky is getting more accustomed to you and his surroundings! But honestly, if you didn't want to fight for a pet's affection, you'd get a dog, right? ;-)

Oh I'm so sorry about Leo! I'm certain he is frolicking and having a grand old time with all your other dear departed furry pals.
Inky is gorgeous. I live in fear of my cat pretty much every day. There have been more than a few times that he is lying in wait for me if I get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. He attacks and has all four paws wrapped around my leg and growls. Terrifying. I am scared one day I'll be in the bathtub and he'll throw the radio in, but I love the little bastard anyway.

Inky is wonderful! I just the love the pictures of him. And am very sorry again about Leo - he has such a sweet kitty face!

Right now Leo is definitely having a ball in a field of tulips, milk, and mice. Is that weird? Okay, let's add yarn to that. Either way, I know he's happy and loving life pain free.

He is beeeautiful!! Really, I mean it! Am so happy to know that you two crazy kids are getting along now! ;)

Oh honey, I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure Leo is in a better place right now. Love you! xoxo

Leo is definitely having the time of his life right now. I have trouble keeping small animals alive, so I'm sure he's making TONS of friends. Maybe chasing a few of the hamsters I starved or hugged to death. :)
Glad to see Inky is warming up to you!

I'm not so much a cat person, but it always makes me happy when people just adore their animals and vice versa. Stoked that Inky is coming around!

Bummer about Leo - sorry to hear that. I have never gone through a pet death - we had dogs when we moved to Texas, but since we couldn't move them here, we gave them to some friends in Ca - and I freaking dread the day we have to say goodbye to our Belladonna. I am going to be a fucking mess. She's only 4, though...so hopefully I have some time!

*hugs*

oh honey, i'm so sorry about leo! that's just so sad and the loss of a loved one is never easy. i hope you are taking care of yourself in the best way for you. one of my therapist mentors was a total hippie and world traveler. she told me once that in many indigenous cultures, they believe their pets sit at our feet after death, remaining by our sides always. that was a really comforting thought when i lost my mya cat a year ago.

i'm so glad inky is coming around and being more of a love bug! looks like your patience is paying off.

oh eff i'm sory about Leo. he was a such a guy...look at his fur. damn. i'd be on pills.

anyway. let's not dwell too long or it'll be time for liquid lunch and that never ends well. your boss in the toilet knows all about that one. sorry i couldn't resist.

now let's discuss inky. he's the shiz. so mysterious behind the curtain.

I'm glad you have Inky but just like any relationship, it'll take some time for a cat!

BTW, your feed in Google Reader seemed like it disappeared then all of a sudden it just showed up! Just an fyi, or maybe it's just me!

Aww- so sorry to hear about Leo-

Inky is cute- I told my oldest son that his name on his birth certificate is Sir Stinks A Lot- he doesn't believe me anymore.

Oh, hon, I'm so sorry about Leo. That sucks. I've lost a lot of cats (casualty of living in coyote-land) and it never, ever gets easier. It's like losing family (only human family members are actually a lot more difficult to love.)

On a lighter note, Inky is adorable and I'm sure his mischievous ways will keep you smiling for years to come. (as will his purrs and love)

awwwwwwwww honey, i am so so sorry to read about leo.
i totally relate, i'm a basketcase for weeks after a pet dies. and i totally get why you couldn't mention it before. sometimes kind words and sympathy just open the floodgates....
BUT on a happier note how frickin wonderful is it that inky's came out of his shell. he's a beauty... are you sure he's a cat? looks like a panther to me ;)
xxx
ps. total giggles at that portrait of him, you've captured his personality perfectly

Inky dinky looks just like my kitty Jinx! Even with the little white hairs on his chest. Sorry about Leo, I can't imagine how tough that must have been for you.

Awww :( I'm so sorry about your kitteh. I was seriously thinking about Inky just yesterday...so I'm glad you posted about him! Glad things are getting better :)

Sorry to hear that you lost Leo. I know that a few months ago, you had to put down Peanut too. Losing a beloved pet is a hard thing.. I remember when I lost my little Ellie. She was hit and run over by a fucking turquoise Jeep right in front of my eyes. The driver didn't even stop. So I sympathize with you about looking at old pictures of pets that have passed away. I cry on the occasion when I think about her or look at her pics, but I know that she knew she was very well loved by me in the short 2 years of her life.

Inky looks handsome! I've always been attracted to black cats & tabbys.

bahahaha! ink-a-dink is cracking me up right now with that behind the curtain pic. i can totally imagine the crazed cat that he his.

i once had a crazy cat...did i tell you this story? her name was abigail and she used to hide under my bed and scratch anyone that walked by, including my friends. she also slept in our fake christmas tree. oh and she had habits like dog...ie: she panted and even chased her tail.

she ended up running away :( long story...in any case, i'm sure she's in cat heaven with your homies. RIP to all.

I am so sorry that you had to put down your cat. that makes me so horrendously sad. I was sitting next to my boyfriend while we watched tv as I looked at your post and as I scrolled down to your comment section he said "scroll back up to that cat, that is a cool looking cat" and when I told him that was that one who was just put down he said, oh man, that's a cool looking cat. Anyway, new elusive cat is adorable and so sorry for your loss. losing pets is never easy. hugs to you.

Leo was a beauty, and Inky is gorgeous. Black cats are special. I've had many, and they've all been semi-wild and grouchy and a whole damn lot of fun.

Thanks for sharing the photos and memories. You are loved.

So glad you and Inky are getting along better. He's so handsome! My fat cat Ringo is 9 and a bit of a grouch... can be the sweetest thing then all of a sudden will bite the hell out of you!

So sorry about Leo.

What a beauty! Inky is so lucky to have found another nutter, i.e. someone who is patient and understanding and gives him space when he needs to. & I don't even want to think about that we'll might have to make the decision to put one of our cats down... It's a brave thing to do when you see someone suffering.

Cats...Black Cats. I love 'em. I have one. She a little wild beauty. I've found her in a forest when she was a kittin. Now she's my silent friend.
P.S. I like your blog. So very much.

Awww...those photos of the Inkster are freaking Gorgeous!!! Damn, you take nice shots. I am glad things are going better between you two...hehe...and I chuckle at our similarities. I am SO GLAD you got him and he's starting to come around. He really seems to suit you, and I know I don't know him..but there is just something. I think he's your little angel, especially with your dealings of your other two babies. He is there to comfort you. :)
