Workhorse Vs. Show Pony

A friend of mine was laid off from her job a while back. She got the boot from a museum that has had financial woes for years and years. This chick is smart, funny, thoughtful and hardworking, but perhaps a bit on the quiet/introverted side. She mentioned that the high ups laid off all of the workhorses and they kept the show ponies. We laughed and laughed at that statement, particularly when a few months later the museum asked her to come back. Seems like the show ponies only got them so far.

Just curious if you think you are more of a workhorse or a show pony?

I've been ridden hard and put to pasture....but work horses are the real thing....those show ponies burn out fast....soon as they need direction, they're lost......

ummmm, this is amazing. I'm glad they hired her back, also.

I'd say I'm more of a workhorse in general ...though you know we gotta be show ponies in front of certain people OR ELSE ;)

Well I think we both know which I am. And after the long weekend I had I was unpleasantly reminded what complete morons I have to work with!! I almost got in my car, drove to KC where this chick works and ripped her head off for the email she sent me today. She is in need of major cunt kicking!!

definitely a workhorse... but I can fancy up my mane when need be! ;)

So many companies are pulling that kind of crap now. They'll learn sooner or later to appreciate the dedicated folk who keep them above water.

that's a nice way to put it!!! And I love any conversation that gets a friend to see their value during a hard time. I'm definitely a workhorse. Being younger in my career, I think you kinda have to be a workhorse unless you're Donald Trump's son or a genius... either way, I hope to someday have worked up to show pony status, haha. but for now, it's a lot of work to make it there. Great for your friend that she was asked back, I love that. Being without job is hard.

I am a workhorse that wishes she was a show pony *sigh*.

i’m definitely more of a workhorse but only to an extent.

1) i'm not willing to give up my personal life for work. NEVER.

and 2)working an hour of overtime pisses me off. i'm on salary :)

I think I'm a little bit of both.

Beautiful pictures.

I especially love your new header! It's dark, creepy, and very cool.

I was always so proud of myself for being a workhorse and not a show pony, and then I started my own business. There's no job/money/anything, unless I go out and get it myself. I had to change my attitude fast. If I could go back and do my corporate career over again, I'd do it different. You can market yourself while still doing good work, and I should have done that. It seems kind of arrogant to me now that I thought everyone should have been head-over-heels just because I did a good job, considering I didn't communicate my good job to anyone.

Sorry about your friend loosing her job but then again then came to realize who was the real deal and that counts a lot. Those pics rock. I so wish I had a horse well a unicorn really but what are the chances of me ever having one or even a horse for that matter le sigh.

It might not look it to the untrained eye, but the life of a "show pony" is brutal. The work horse is by far a happier and healthier animal.

Total show pony, but I'm working really hard for it.

I want a horse!

I'm both. I work really hard, but I dress up nicely for work and make everything I do (to the untrained eye) look super easy.

I am more of a workhorse than a show pony, but sadly got farther faster when I was a show pony.
