While shopping at the Gallery of Functional Art (one of my favorite places to shop for unique gifts), I noticed that they carried some jewelry that was a little bit reminiscent of Alexander Calder's Jewelry. Here are some examples of Metal Pointu's Jewelry:

Metal Pointu's Jewelry isn't cheap, but it is a whole lot more reasonably priced than Alexander Calder's Jewelry. :) I have a couple of their bracelets and I love them. To see their inventory and check prices, click here. :)

ooooh, ok. i saw "gallery of functional art" and "alexaner calder" and thought "there's no way $X00,000 jewelry pieces, while amazing, can be classified as functional." and then i saw that those others were a different designer. still out of my price range, but within the realm of sanity. and i think i may even like some of their stuff better than calder's.

second pic from top: speaking of functional, i know a place where i could *use* that...

Some of that's really cool. Another jewelry blogger has posted a couple times about AC's jewelry, and he was trying to do some of his own pieces with a similar feeling. http://andrew-thornton.blogspot.com/2011/03/inspired-by-calder-wired-objects.html and http://andrew-thornton.blogspot.com/2011/03/inspired-by-calder-wired-objects-part-2.html

I'm pretty sure my husband will be sending you an email asking why their are these credit card charges for $132,000 and $92,000...just pretend you don't know me:) Love it. Art you can wear!!

You own a few pieces? I would love to see you in them! I bet you rock them. I love it when people wear art.

When I see that people have purchased art like this, I want to go to their houses, which I imagine are kind of like galleries. One of the families I babysat for had an original Sally Mann and I totally wanted to STEAL it, especially since they were CRAZY.

These pieces are unique & pretty! I really love the azure colored ring (?) in the 1st pic. Has a modern, tribal flair to it.

I don't get it.

Am not a lover of jewelry, wear a couple rings and that's it.

This stuff? I really just don't get.

Oh, I used to shop at Metal Pointu quite a lot! They had two stores I frequent when I'm in Paris, but I always find it so hard to choose (and the sales assistants are bit too eager for my liking). I wish I had way more disposable income for Calder's pieces. So incredible!

Worth saving your penny for :)

Calder's style and sensibility is perfect for designing jewelry. Metal Pointu is endlessly fun. I used to love to wear such jewelry. If I still wore much jewelry at all I'd still wear this style.

I so want that silver bracelet to be a necklace. It's so FUCKING FANTASTIC . Also, I wish it was affordable, lol.

You know I loves these!!

These pieces are amazing. I love the necklaces. Though - maybe it's because I don't have pots of money - wear does one comfortably wear a $132,000 necklace?

Still, I want one. Sigh...

mmm nah, you get lots of this "art" in africa, but the artists usually starve...

I cant fathom how you can adore trinkets like this that looks like it comes from a kid who mess arround with scrap metal in his dad's workshop...
