Thoughts on awnings? I have to confess that many times I just love them [as long as they are tasteful and logo-free]. I even have them where I live, and they make me smile.

I love how your mind works- to put a collection like this together- you are a great curator-
BTW I read my monkeys your comment yesterday about being a great mom- My ten year old laughed- he begs to differ.

i totally love awnings! throw in a window box or some fun colors/patterns and i'm sold. does that make me nerdy? i don't care, i love the character that a good awning adds to a building... they're the perfect architectural accessory.

I like them on commercial buildings but have mixed feelings about them on residential homes. We live in a community that was built slowly from the 00-50's and there is a sections of homes that has them--some are amazing but seem to require a lot of care as most of them are weather beaten. -- your artistic eye captures the beauty of them -- my eye catches the labor it takes to maintain them.

The office building we are in, has a fabulous event space on the first two floors. Really lovely.

They recently hung the tackiets blue awnings which match nothing, do not uphold the historical integrity of the building and have this lovely misspelling on them:

Conferance Space.

Yes, I am in the south, and yes we may say it like that, but NO, we don't spell it like that.

The red & white ones remind me of TGI Fridays, so I could do without those even though I LOVE the ivied building. I didn't really like the car. The Mardi Gras colored one looks like it belongs in NOLA. Maybe it is? There's one somewhere in the middle of a red brick building with blue angular awnings that look like the bottoms of garbage chutes! haha. I don't mind them in general, and in the sun or rain, I'm happy to find one. LOVE the second photo.

OMG...how cool are these? I love awnings on older buildings that have some character. Especially in New Orleans!!!

you know what's bad. i never knew what they were called until just now. I do love them. I think I always called them canopies?!?! anyways they are gorgeous and soften it up for sure. kinda romantic even. :)

i like them BUT (this is really morbid) my first thought was of my first trip to NYC at 17. i saw a guy smushed on the sidewalk cause he jumped out a window. he fell through the green awning. awning= smushed body.

That's a nice gallery of pics! The taxi awning is really amusing, ha ha. It's really great to see stuff like this, no? They're just a small part of a building yet they add a ton of color and personality to the whole structure.
