Solvang / Buellton / Avila Beach

Have you ever been to Solvang? Solvang is a Danish village located in the Santa Ynez Valley of California.

I met my parents in Solvang the other day and I ended up taking 14 scrillion pictures while I was in the area. Here are some of them:

Thoughts on Solvang:

  • It is cute.
  • It is clean. Very clean.
  • I was not impressed with the food (who smothers a steak in paprika?!?!?!?!?).  I did not try any sweets, which was STUPID! D'oh!  They looked deeeelicious.
  • I did not see ANY big, burly Viking-looking dudes, which was rather disappointing.
  • I mostly saw elderly couples, and it appeared that the women were enjoying themselves, and that the men were tolerating the destination in hopes of getting a good meal and/or scoring points with their ladies.  HA!  I made this observation to my Dad, and he sighed and confirmed it was true.  HA!

If you are ever in the Solvang area, I HIGHLY recommend that you visit these two places:

34 E Hwy 246
Buellton, CA
805-450-9453

and

Rolling Hills Garden Center
420 E Highway 246
BuelltonCA
805-688-7210

If you like my pics, you can find me on instagram (drollgirl).

I also post most pics to facebook and twitter.

I love to see it through your eyes! So pretty and fun!
And ps... that bit about why the men were married, I'm sure you could say that about most things.

I love the way you frame your shots. So artistic! I somehow always just shoot the whole thing. Your parents on the pier? I have been to Solvang several times. Only once with the husband in tow. No more!

Is this in Southern California off of I-5? If so I need to stop on my next SoCal adventure trip. I'll have to look it up.

It looks so interesting from your photos, but I'll take your word on it with the food.

I have been once and thought it was adorable. Almost convinced my husband to go a few years ago but he backed out and then we heard mochael jackson had been there that weekend! LOL

I can definitely understand why most men felt that way!

I used to live in Santa Ynez and worked in various Solvang shops during college.

It's comforting to know some things never change.

Great pictures! What a strange place... I think for the really big, burly Vikings you've got to travel to the real country...

Too bad it's on the other side of the country from me. :(

the old couple on the dock insta-shot was my favorite, though they all rock in their own way.

i doubt i'll ever visit solvang...let's be honest. the name alone makes me cringe...it's just not my kind of town...but hey it does look pleasant!

I've been meaning to take a holiday there, but I need a travel buddy. It's a good five hour drive for me.

I have never heard of it, but it sounds sort of like Frankenmuth, MI where ladies love to visit Bronner's Christmas Wonderland and the guys, usually older, are like walking bellhops.

Love your photos! I'm very disappointed for you that you didn't see any burly Viking men and that you didn't eat any sweets or that you didn't see any burly Viking men eating delicate sweets that would have sprinkled their chest hair with powdered sugar...
