The Ferris Wheel

IMG_9601

The boyfriend and I went to the Orange County Fair last week as part of my birthday celebration. I love going to fairs -- the picture taking is fab, the food choices are ridic, and the heavy dose of Americana you see at the fair just makes me laugh.

The boyfriend kept wanting to ride the Ferris Wheel. I said NO WAY, seeing as the last time I rode a ferris wheel I swore I never would again. They are too scary for me. The height, the creeking, the height, the wind, the height, the swaying, THE HEIGHT, the FEAR...I just cannot handle ferris wheels. But he kept pushing the issue. Reluctance doesn't even begin to describe how fearful I was, but I eventually said ok. But I REALLY REALLY REALLY didn't want to do it. I can't even tell you how gigantic this death trap ferris wheel was -- was it 15 stories high? 150 stories high? I don't know, but IT WAS REALLY REALLY REALLY HIGH. I kept saying, I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS, but I stupidly got onboard anyway. I think I would have been embarrassed to back out, but I really should have. As soon as they closed the door to OUR CAGE, I had to clutch the railing and close my eyes. It got worse. As soon as we started moving it got MUCH WORSE. And I ended up hyperventilating and CRYING. CRYING ON THE FERRIS WHEEL. CRYING ON THE FERRIS WHEEL!!!!! A 42-year old wuss in tears. ARGH!!! NEVER AGAIN!!! I CANNOT HANDLE THAT RIDE!!!

Anywhoo, if you saw a big baby crying as she left the ferris wheel, IT WAS ME! Or one of my kind. Lol.

P.S. The rest of the fair was fun -- really really REALLY fun.  And I will NEVER EVER get on another stupid ferris wheel again!!!

The only time I ever went on a Ferris wheel I had that exact same experience. I will NEVER let anyone convince me to go on one again.

That is too funny. I'm sorry. But it is. But, I think I could understand if it was really windy. But heights never REALLY REALLY have scared me. :) Glad you survived birthday gal.

LOL...oh goodness. Hey you want to come to WI state fair and go on the ferris wheel with me? We can eat a deep fried snickers bar as we twirl around in circles...kidding! I don't really mind the ferrid wheel so much but something about rides being able to be set up and taken down in a matter of a day just isn't very settling to me. I'm with you on this one!

oh my gosh, that's terrible! i love ferris wheels, but kind of don't trust fair rides that take 30 minutes to assemble, soooo....

You crack me up! I sure hope manfriend got you a gigantic funnel cake for making you get on that thing!

At least you didn't barf!
I saw Weird Al Yankovich there a few years ago. I had to explain why each song was funny to my husband. I also got my fortune told. But I never ride fair or carnival rides because of that assembly thing.

Girrrrrrl I'm with you on this so hard! I can do a super fast roller coaster but you keep your ferris wheels the hell away from me.

Heehee soooo funny. I'm pretty fearful of heights, but ferris wheels aren't THAT bad to me . . . but ski lifts? Forget about it. Shudder.

Sorry you were so terrified! But I'm glad you had an otherwise fun time at the fair. They really are so festive.

And now he will always remember to never push you when you say you don't want to do something or he'll forever live with the guilt that he made you sob.

Gosh I love the fair so much too!
Last time we went, it was hot as hell & D got heartburn after his 1st corndog and was an ass the rest of the time there. Now I bring Tums to anything with junk food!

UHG!!!! Poor thing! I feel for you! I can't ride those stupid swing chairs. The ones that hang by a simple chain that fly up in the air all sideways and shit with your legs dangling all over? I picture the chains snapping and being propelled out over the crowd and then landing on the concrete breaking every bone in my body but still stuck in the stupid chair. LOVE the photo :)

Can I just hug you for this post? I look at a ferris wheel and start to freak out. Too high. Way too high. I just want to have a group hug right now.

bless your sweet heart. that sucks. i do not. not. not. do the heights. but im not dating someone new(ish) and a photographer of great skill who would conceivably talk herself into maybe just maybe it will be better this time.

happy belated btw. big georgia hugs to you.

oh. and tell me that boyfriend was super sweet during your "moment" and felt like an ass for being an ass. if a woman past twenty something says "no i don't enjoy (insert pretty much anything here)" you listen to her and win her a teddy bear.

Oh no! Terrified is not a good birthday emotion :-( I'm glad you enjoyed the rest of it though!

First off... BOYFRIEND?!!?! Can I be the only one to point that out??? This is serious stuff. Serious serious stuff. Manfriend? Ok. BOYFRIEND. Nuh uh. You're in deep. Forget the stupid ferris wheel. You said the bad bad word. ;) Shit. You're a goner.

Much Love,
Trissta

ahahahahahah.... I can't help giggling. I think the last time I went on a ferris wheel I said the same thing. NEVER AGAIN. The creeking and the waiting at the top, swinging a little in the winds are what kill me.

I say that about skiing. NEVER Again. Then someone always convinces me how fun it is....
It totally sucks. I hate skiing and I will never go again.

We're in our 40s now. We don't have to do shit that we don't want to!!

When it got to the crying part I realized that if you take out the words ferris wheel and substitue blow job, I could have written the same post.
*also hate ferris wheels.

I totally feel for you - I would have just died! The height, the fear, the trappedness... Crying? It would have been full nervous breakdown for me. So: Well done! (and never again!!) - Plus, I've enjoyed your fair pictures, mucho mucho.

It's ok to be afraid.
Last time I got on the ferris wheel my friend next to me barfed. It was awful - so, look at it on the bright side, it could have been worst.

I would have been the same way. I would have cried my eyes out. Those carni rides FREAK me out. I can't handle them. Glad you survived and enjoyed the rest of the fair. I went to the LA county fair a few years ago and that was a trip.

I hate ferris wheels as well. You poor thing.I hope you are over the trauma and the manfriend now realizes not to push when you say no!Years ago I went on one of those hideous rides where you are in a cage that swings you upside down and in circles and my boyfriend threw up. He'd had an OMELET for breakfast, gahh! They stopped the ride and the poor operator person opened our cage with a metal pole.

I am SO not a fan of ferris wheels...Although I have some beautiful Monica Shulman photos of them hanging in my dining room. Ha!
