Courtesy Laugh

courtesy laugh drollgirl

The other day the boyfriend said something and then he paused and waited for me to laugh.  I didn't think it was funny, so I didn't laugh.  He wailed my name and told me that I used to laugh at all of his jokes.  I told him that wasn't true, that I only laugh when I genuinely think something is funny, because I just don't have the energy to dole out courtesy laughs. He looked a bit sad, and told me he wanted me to laugh at ALL of his jokes, and said he would appreciate any kind of laugh from me, even a courtesy laugh.  Stunned, I asked if he really wanted FAKE LAUGHS. And he said YES. !!!!!!!!!  WELLLLLLLLLLLLL, I hate being fake, so I am searching for an app for my phone so that I can just press a laugh track button if/when I ever need it.

HA!!!!

BAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH....

Well, there's certainly a need for that app if you can't find it. I think you should make it. BECAUSE YES!

if he doesn't mind fake laughs, what about faking it in other areas of your life together? maybe there's an app for that, too. it's a slippery slope, for sure!

You should laugh hysterically then roll right into a "that's not funny" deadpan. Gets 'em every time!

There's all kinds of laughs, for all sorts of situations that call for them! The uncomfortable "Eheh" laugh; the I-see-what-you-did-there "Hnnyaahh"; sometimes just a smile for things that aren't quite a LOL. These are finely-calibrated tools, he doesn't know what he's asking for by compromising the system!

I'm glad to see that my hubby and I aren't the only ones who discuss when we should be laughing at each other's not-funny jokes.

Gotta love relationships. Hell, even when my husband says something that I would find funny if ANY other human said it....I can't bring myself to laugh. It's one of life's cruel jokes....literally. bahahahaha and badumdum. So, I guess it goes without saying that he finds NOTHING I say funny but I am constantly whining about how everyone else thinks I'm witty. In fact, I think he only laughs when the "joke" results in a bruised shin or stubbed toe. FML ;-)

I don't believe in courtesy laughs nor courtesy apologies. I'm a genuine bitch like that.

i can't fake laughter either- my husband has this fake laugh i cannot stand - he does it a lot when he is on the phone and it's not even believeable, you hear it and you know it's fake.

Hmm, I totally do the smile and nod, but don't fake laugh. My husband thinks it funny that I don't laugh out loud at comedy shows or while I'm watching a sitcom. I'm with you - when I think it's funny, I'll laugh! Otherwise, you just get the smile and nod!
